So while I'm sitting here at work, dreaming of a future 993 cab purchase and the logistics surrounding it, I began to wonder about the 3rd brake light. I absolutely hate the light that bridges across the rear grill vent

. I am also not a fan of the unit included on the 964/930's. That is the one that stands straight up off of the body (kind of looks like an upside down L.) Anyone know of any other options? I don't want to add a wing. Are there any legal problems running with out one (i.e., DOT, Law enforcement, Liability w/ rear collision)? Anyway, I'm just kind of thinking out loud.

I believe it's a fed law that if your car had a 3rd brake light from the factory it MUST remain on the car, thats not to say you can't change to a better looking unit but it must meet the hight law. Try a WEB search for these laws in your state.

I'm no lawyer so take this with a grain of salt. The third brake light is a federally mandated safety device, but there is no state law that says it's mandated so you are free to pull it. But take in to consideration our sue happy society. If you get rear ended someone could bring up the point that you removed a federally mandated safety device and they didn't see your brakes lights because of that and are now damaged for life and you need to turn over your house and dog as payment.

I figured there was a liability issue involved with the removal of the unit. I'm not to attached to my house but I do like my dogs <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> Anyone seen a better looking solution?
