Here is some interesting info. According to Porsche Cars of North America's data base, there are still 1084 models, of the 4033 sold in the US, left.. 83 of them had code 900 (European Delivery Preparation). These numbers include both coupe and cabriolet. My guess is the EDP cars were for the Canadian market  or cars picked up by customer in Europe and brought over.

This info was sent to me by the Vice President of Porsche US in Atlanta........which means only 25 percent survived. That's a bit scary if that number is correct.

I would warn people that all 968s arent pristine. I regulary do PPI for prospective buyers. The last three I inspected were in poor condition. I only though one of the three was a keeper and it needed 4K of work to start. All of these were at used car lots of high end Euro cars. They looked ok at 10 feet but....

I'm sure the private cars are in better condition , still buyer beware.

If that was true there would be a lot of 968 parts available in salvage yards.. And that's certainly not the case, far from it as a matter of fact, so I think PCNA's info on this is questionable .

Here is some more info for you. I did question the numbers sent to me from Atlanta. There is no way that only  roughly 25% is still alive. I asked them if their number reflected all the registered cars in North America. The answer was no. These numbers are only Porsche serviced and independent info arriving into Porsche's data base. In regards to the 4033 number I don't know. It does match Jeff's number. Will have to get his comment. My simple non-scientific guess is that at least half of them are still "alive".....As for parts not being available....I don't know. I know a lot of parts fits the 944...maybe that is where they went.....who knows!!

That means that 70-75% of all Porsches are still on the road. But, Porsche has built, probably, 70% of all Porsches in the last 10 years, so that number is a bit distorted.

 

I have been assuming that about 50% of 968 remain, and that number will probably not go down for a while. Many owners are starting to realize the value and are beginning to cherish them and keep up on required maintenance, etc. I think the days or drive them until they break and throw them away are just about over. Now we become collectors.

There are still people who can afford to have the car, but not the maintenance. They drive the car and patch it the best they can and when the big hit comes, they unload it. "Hey it ran when I parked it"

I've been using a dismantler for 14 years and cars are getting very hard to find. He told me wrecked cars at auction are getting bid up from overseas. I can ask him how many he's lost in this manner.

but there is not one car under £10k GBP = $13.5k

Talked to my dismantler today. He said he has purchased around 45 cars over the years. He has lost bids on a dozen that went overseas

He told me only one wrecked car available for bid right now, and it's in Hawaii.
