2008 968 Celebration
#41

Very disappointed in the turn out so far for the 2008 968 Celebration. We have 18 968 participants registered to date. You will miss out on a very good time if you skip this one. Some of the door prizes are: Replacement Grill (top and bottem) made from braided stainless steel, black in color - complements of Doug Foster; As new pair of white cotton gloves that came in the underhood glove compartment in 1993 and 1992 - complements of Bob Blackwell; As new Porsche shop rag that came in the underhood glove compartment in 1992 and 1993 - complements of Bob Blackwell; As new Sunroof Storage webbing, black web, that came with the 968 when delivered - complements of Bob Blackwell. We have some exciting events scheduled in some very unique locations for your enjoyment. Sign up soon, Bob Blackwell.

I think the current gas prices are going to be a factor this year. I hear there are only about a 1000 registered for Parade this year.

Hey Bob,

Hope that all is well for you and Dan in planning the 968 Celebration at Escape (Sept 18-20). I noticed on the www.escapepca.org website that 150+ have registered for Escape, including 20 owners who have signed up for the 968 only Tour J with less than 7 weeks to go. Checking the 968 Register membership roster, almost 50 968 owners live within 300 miles of Albuquerque (plus the 968 owners on this website) so I think you will still see more going. I remember Flash indicating at the April 968 Gathering in Hershey that he was planning a 968 Caravan from California. My concern would be that when 968 owners finally do decide to go, that the Hotel rooms will be gone or Registration will be closed.

I had really been looking forward to the 4000 mile drive prior to my granddaughter having medical problems (she is in the hospital right now for an asthma condition - hope she will be released this weekend).

Dan sent me one of the new 968 Celebration at Escape window decals, it looks great next to my other 968 Celebration decals. Is the below schedule still accurate?

Thursday, Sept 18: Register at hotel, pick up PCA Escape Package & Goodie Bag plus 968 Celebration items; 968 wash-n-shine judging at the hotel by PCA Execs Tom and Manny; caravan to the Golf Club for Escape Dinner

Friday, Sept 19: 968 Only Tour J hosted by you with Dan as 968 tail of the caravan. Awards ceremony (looking forward to seeing photos of the new Awards that Dan is having made). Optional Escape dinner

Saturday, Sep 20: More Escape tours available and final Escape Dinner.

I guess the website has more info on the Escape events.

Have a great event, sorry I am unable to join.

Hey Don, good to hear from you again, we hope your granddaughter is out of the hospital and breathing free again. Final plans for the 968 Celebration are proceeding along with the PCA 2008 Escape plans. I had to move our Tour Lunch to a better place with more room to accommodate the 968 participants. The Blue Corn Cafe is one of Santa Fe's great places to eat. The awards presentation, door prizes and Technical Talk by Tom Charlesworth will be there after lunch. There will be a $20 fee for the lunch, which includes tip, beverage and dessert and pays for use of the room.

For detailed information go to the PCA Escape website at: www.PCA Escape 2008 Looking forward to seeing all of the 968s together, Bob Blackwell.

Bob,

Thanks for asking about our granddaughter. Katrina was in the hospital for 6 days but is now at home and ornery (terrible 2's and maybe 3's) as ever. Our prayer is that she will grow out of her Asthma problem.

Sounds like all is well with the 968 Celebration at Escape, should be the best Celebration ever!

Whew! The 968 Celebration 2008 is over and we are finally catching our breath. The Mariott was a fine facility with the Staff going out out their way to make us feel welcome. Secure parking in a dedicated Porsche Only parking lot made us all sleep a little easier. There were 17 968s and 31 people at the event this year and all I saw was happy faces and all I heard were favorable comments. Photo ops abounded beginning in the parking lot and the Shine & Show Display at the Tanoan Country Club Golf Course with the majestic Sandia Crest of the Southern Rocky Mountain Chain looming in the background. Several imaginative Tours satisfied all of the drivers among us with good local New Mexican food as well. Winners of the traditional awards are:

Technical Quiz - R.J. Wilmoth (where have we heard that name before?)

Longest Distance Driven To Event - Bryson Kiser from Henderson, NC 1,600 miles

Most Miles On Odometer - Bob Blackwell (ol blue has 168, 980 miles!)

Best Coupe - Kathleen Kendler

Best Cab - David Vadman

Most Modified Coupe - Bob Blackwell (ol blue has a new look with a checker flag, vinyl bra)

Most Modified Cab - Kathleen Lennon ("My 968 isn"t Modified!)

Least Miles on Odometer - Dan Denison ("I need to drive my 968 more")

Photos will be submitted as soon as they are available. Bob Blackwell, Co-Chairman

Hey, if I can figure out how to attach a picture, anyone can!!!!

Although I have yet to use the site's resizing tool (sounds sexual!)... I use some freeware that I have on my laptop (still sounds sexual!).

At my age and experience level with computers, almost everything is difficult. Not much chance I will "get with the times" anytime soon. Sorry about that. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

Well guys, it is like this. I do not even know what size the photo is. It is currently attached to an email message sent to me from the photographer. I attempted to import it into adobe photo shop and save it so I could send it to this site as well as to the 968register site. When I click on the picture in adobe photo shop it tells me "cannot find file" (even when I am looking at the file on the screen!) So I am not able to send it to the spot suggested for "resizing" and posting. Bob.

hmmm - well, the first thing is to get it out of the email - can't you just drag it to the desktop or save it as a new file?

Bob-

Why not forward the email to one of us? We can detach it, resize it, and post it if you want?

Thanks, that is just what I have done. Jay Kravitz emailed me and said he would post them for me. I have sent him the pictures that I have so far and will send the rest as I get them from the photographer. Thanks and good luck, Bob Blackwell.
