1993 968 in southern Maine
#1

Just picked up a 1993 968.

I was seduced by her good looks.

She needs a new windshield and the previous owner said it will need calipers.

Grand Prix white with cashmere and black interior.

Runs and drives like a champ!

Welcome....

Those calipers are rebuildable if you can find a good shop. The calipers do have known corrosion issues especially in your part of the world so look at that as a brake problem.

Welcome. You could start by checking if the brake pads are able to move freely. If not, a good cleaning could do wonders.

Thanks.  They seem to be working now, but I do suspect it might be corrosion.  I will find some time to pull the wheels and get a closer look soon.

Thanks!

The calipers are not too difficult to rebuild in the garage if you have an acetylene torch.  The screws on the spring plates are loctited in, and they take HEAT to get them out...

Welcome.  The 968 is a great car.

Great advice.  Thanks.  The car actually came with two extra calipers.  I don't even know if they are for the front or rear or for that matter if they are different.

Externally the calipers look about the same but the pistons for the front calipers are larger in diameter than the rears and provide more braking force.
