I don't have one to donate, but I saw on Rennlist that DC Automotive is parting out a cab (total shame <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/sad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> )-they may sell you the one from that cheap.
Super! I will contact them!
And, Yes, the Male and Female Plugs are Porsche propriatary items, and are "somewhat" difficult to fab up (by design I think!). I understand that AMP Electrical made them for Porsche originally, but Porsche will not let them make any for the Aftermarket... probably a die ownership issue.
In any case, being an old (emphasis on "OLD"!) engineer, I believe there is a way to fab the Male unit from the Female Connector, and do a short production run from modern castable Resins available today. Some hand fabrication required, but how many are we talking about? Maybe 1,500 968's left in the USA? I suppose such a plug would work for the 928GT's and GTS's, but not many of them either... and the 964's, I suppose... well, may have to do more with the casting than originally thought, if the market is there!
From there, it is a relatively short "Leap" to install the correct Harness to cable up to a Laptop, and the necessary software for diagnostics and most importantly, Airbag Resets!!! Of course, you can always cut the wire, but us Purists would rather keep all of the bits as originally delivered!
Actually, the Male Plug is just a convenience item, as the pins can be inserted individually into the Female connector, BUT, if it is doable, why not make it easy as well? Then non engineering types would be more inclined to "Plug and Play", right?
So, On with the Project! I will contact DC and see if I can get the Female Connector... or, barring that, I think I can still buy one directly from Porsche, but why go to ask "Mother" first, right??? More fun to do it the hard way!
