over 400 classic cars, some terrible food, and even worse music, but the beer was cold and so was the weather.

And from left to right, A UK Only Sport, My old banger, and a genuine road/track Clubsport.

 

the owner has now decided not to track it anymore, its been valued at £35k for insurance, thats about $40k

 

the MG behind should be right up Bob's Street, its a MGC (GT) 3 litre straight 6, not many of those about

Nice shot. They look great. I had people at the track constantly asking questions about my 968 this past weekend. This really hot 24 year old came over and told me she loved my car. By the grace of god I was good and thanked her for the compliment and didn’t ogle her. Subsequently I learned that she was a guy I know from the tracks daughter. Whew.

This must have been a great show! A bunch of people I know were at Rennsport over the weekend, waiting to see the pics. Person I know had 6 Porsches entered in the races!

Back to the event : interesting to see that two out of the three 968s there have splitters . I wonder how common those are, and if other than the D1R , there is just one or maybe two other manufacturers for 968 splitters ?

Out of those 400 + classics , were there a few DB4s, 5s or 6s ? How about Jaguar Es ? Love those cars but the first three are now in stupid price territory, and the E-type in spite of being in the top five most beautiful cars of all time ( IMO ) by all reports is an absolute mechanical nightmare and not that great of a driver either .. Still, I very rarely see DB 4-6s or an E-type at classic car shows here, I thought there may be much more common in the UK though..

no DB's of any number, but two 1970's DBS V8's and one DBS vantage straight 6, three E types one V12 with twin turbos!!!

 

there was also a MK2 Cortina 1965 with a very nice engine install of a Lotus Esprit V8 engine with twin turbos, in the UK the cars shows attract a lot of US cars as they are quite rare here,

I don’t see a lot of 968’s in this neck of the woods or at the track but very few have splitters. I think our splitters look very good overall. Now here is were I get biased, Flash quiet, add a wing and canards and its a cool look.

To each his own . To me, splitters and other aftermarket wings and stuff like that give the car an 'even more dated appearance , as in the 80s era . Especially cabs who look even more timeless than the coupes should be left alone ( IMHO ), the lines and every aspect of their design is so classic, it's a pity to bastardize it.. Did I mentuon this is all IMHO ;-) :-) ?!

The splitter is a turbo S copy, purchased from Germany for £120

It is functional you can feel it starting to pull the fromt of the car down at speeds into 3 digits

My car always felt “floaty” at over 100mph, not now it feels much more stable

And there was always the Techart front splitter available the tech blurb on that says it adds 40kg of downforce at 120mph

Interesting , I've had the car at just over 160 mph ( speedometer reading anyway, so probably 150 or so in real speed ) and this was even before I modified pretty much all the suspension and lowered the car, and I recall how surprised was as to how well planted it felt all the way up to that speed without having any floaty effect at all. Just the very frightening and nervous effect on the driver, lol. ;-)
But if you can feel the splitter make a difference in the triple digits category, I'm sure I would have also noticed the downforce improvement making those runs. However, I hardly ever get into that MPH range anymore, or even close to it for that matter, those were a handful of experimental occasions to test me determine the car's top speed potential at various stages of chip and air box mod, free flow catback mod, suspension mods, and last, soon after the SC was installed . I'm a much more mild-mannered driver than in my crazy days of yesteryear :-) . So not really any practical " need " for me to have a splitter, and as I mentioned I'm not all that warm on the aesthetics of it . It's not that I think it's an unattractive component on the car, just one that is more reminiscent of the previous decade when a lot of cars had all those factory and after market front spoilers / splitters or more pronounced rear wings, etc.

My aero upgrades eliminated the squiggly at high speed braking. Corners are more planted. Flash explains in detail how there are better ways to achieve this. I can only speak to my personal observations. Although there seems to be quite a few of these wings in the various race series. Now if you were to say the little wing in my Targa accomplishes nothing even from a looks perspective I might tend to agree.
