Unfortunate and sad day for me, I have a damaged 968. Title still says "clean", but she's not. Hit wall at slowish speeds, but walls don't move, at backwards 45-degree, hitting the font first. I'm not sure what a damaged or parts car sells for - please make an offer. I'm not interested in parting out. I want to sell the whole car. Portland Oregon area.
Good aspects:
103K miles. Motor runs great. Had the head gasket replace proactively ~ 5 years ago at 92K miles.
Regular synthetic oil and so on. Motor is not damaged at all.
Transmission in great shape. No pinion bearing issues.
Has factory LSD. Can't be a sports car without an LSD.
Interior is in good shape. Black interior.
Dash has no cracks, all gauges work and so on. There were no issues with the car.
Doors both good.
All electronics working, seat motors - all of it.
AC/Ventalation works.
All windows, glass, mirrors OK. Hatch, unaffected.
The damage:
Driver's side front and rear suspension damaged. (can be replaced with any 944S to turbo 87+ - I know a guy who will sell at low cost ... he volunteered to help).
Damaged panels/ parts: front bumper, hood, passenger front fender (somehow driver's side survived), driver's side rear panel (swung around hit wall).
Internal frame part # 94450101702, bent behind radiator front brace, just behind AC reservoir.
Diagnosis to fix: Note, I am not expert. I just want to pass on what I learned.
Remove engine and tranny (and other stuff in the way)
Pull and straighten the frame.
remove part # 94450101702 (spot welded in).
Verify straight.
Weld in new # 9445010702 (not sure if you can use a used one).
Re-install engine and tranny.
replace suspension parts.
Replace or repair Pass fender, drivers panel, front bumper.
Paint....
I wanted to be clear that bent frame piece that should be replaced can't really be replaced unless if the engine is removed, due to the welding in of the brace # 94450101702. You can probably pull it straight, but I wouldn't want to get into another crash like that (i.e. don't even think about it).
PM if interested or want to see more pics. Please PM me if you know a cheaper way to fix it, want to help, offer condolences, cry over the loss of shared friend. I'm really going to miss this car.
Regards, Peter
Pictures in order:
- Passenger side - shows hood damage - front of front fender is crinkled (see later pic).
- Engine bay. Note right side line along the engine should come out straight. (like other side).
- Front view - this corner took the blow, going backwards.
- Back passenger side - all is well.
- Back passenger side - hit box on wall. pushed in. back tire is pushed in. Some suspension damage.
- view of front support. can see drivers side is slightly lifted. Not sure why front support isn't even buckled (but it isn't).
- Another view of the internal frame part and how it is bent and buckled near the AC reservoir (Yes AC works).
- Damage to passenger side fender.
- Only current view of have that shows the interior. Doors and mirrors are fine.
