I am currently targeting Saturday August 27. This is the last Saturday before Labor Day and school going back in session. I'll confirm this date in a few days when we get some feedback on it.
Once again we will do the Ortega Highway Run. This run is always a blast, and with the newly repaired and paved roads, it should be even more fun. The scenery is amazing, and the roads are twisty. What more could you ask for?
I HIGHLY recommend having a radar detector for this. We tend to move along at a brisk pace, and so you need to be on the lookout for the local constabulary. Co-Pilots are more than welcome, and highly encouraged. This is an open event. Wives and significant others are welcome too.
We will again start at the Coffee and Cars very early. If you haven't done this, it is a MUST SEE. I will arrange for special group parking for our group. Arrive by 6:30 if you want to park with us. Once we all get parked, feel free to wander around and see some of the most amazing cars you will ever see in one place at one time. Bring your camera.
We will then have a brief driver's meeting at our area at 8:15, where I will hand out directions, maps, and all that stuff.
We will be departing there at 8:30 sharp for the run.
As always, there will be a quiz/gimmick test and prizes. Co-pilots make this a whole lot easier, so bring somebody along.
The course will likely be similar to the last 2 years, though I am thinking of doing it backwards to try to avoid traffic, and to throw in a few new twists. That has it's ups and downs, and I haven't decided yet. We will again stop at Starbuck's in Corona at the half way point and gather together, pick up stragglers, grab a drink, and then head on again. There are no other stops planned.
The entire run takes about 3 hours. We should be back at my house about 11:30 or so where we will all go back and I will burn some dead animal flesh for everybody, and open the well stocked fridge in the Garage Mahal.
It's generally quite warm, so dress accordingly. For you cab drivers, I recommend a hat and water be in the car with you. Sunblock isn't a bad idea either.
Everything for the barbecue is provided. All I need is a head count.
For those who might be coming from a distance, I can put a few people up here. Contact me for details.
