Yet another baby is adopted
#1

As a new member I thought I would put forth a couple of pics of my kids.

The old feller, a 1989 944 S2 and it replacement, my 1993 Midnight Blue coupe!

Unfortunately the bank (4 letter word for wife) says I can't keep both so the 944 is on the block but for now I am a 2 Porsche owner <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

This forum seems awesome and as money permits I will try/buy almost everything you guys suggest. Except for that crazy guy who is making his own turbo <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

I have already put a sub in the rear well just as I did in the S2 and done the airbox mod.

Both Porsches look great. Love the backgrounds too, you certainly live in a beautiful part of the world.

Dave,

Welcome to the club!

I am just north in Seattle and have been getting the last few "top down days" in my 968 cab.

If your 968 is a daily driver, check out the auto socks web site for those snowy days.

Hey! Another new BC 968 owner!! Nice - I just bought mine about 3 weeks ago and love it! You will to. I've had the 944s (and a 951) and these just have a more 'complete' feel to them. I love that blue and it looks as well kept as you could ask!

So......which is quicker - the old steed or the new kid?

Cheers

An RS Barn Chip will complement that airbox mod well. While your there, grab a SS clutch hose as they are known to fail without warning.

Oh yeah, and have a DME on stand by. Much like the clutch hose, a known issue that strikes at the worst time. Much cheaper to have the part in your glove box then to pay The towing expense.

Funny you should say that. 3 days after getting an new clutch and RS flywheel installed the hose blew. Actually the picture of it by the ocean I posted was the last move it made, that's where it blew. Didn't know better so I replaced it with the original. Hopefully it will go another 15 years?

The S2 is on http://www.virpca.org/market.html with all the details. Added to this list of maintenance items it a new clutch master cylinder. I just had a new clutch put in last week and noticed the master was weeping when I got it back so I returned it to the mechanic to replace that also.

See previous reply. I think the shipping would be more than the car is worth to NY. But our $ is down from par to .78 since your home lending/mortage crisis so it's 20% off now to the US! Of course now I don't want to upgrade my 968 because parts are going to cost me 20% more, rats!

I fear the new knid but I'm not going to test it. I just finished a year of changing and cleaning up everything on the S2 so it's almost perfect and that would be tempting fate too much.

Car was in very good condition but this winter I will remove everything I can and fill/paint/scrub or replace whatever you can do without a hoist.

Nah, just looks like New Zealand. I love your part of the world too but alas it's an arm and a leg to fly there and back from here. I could buy a whole new exhaust system, get coilovers and watch Paul Hogan for the same price <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Ack! The web admin from our club put it up last week and now she's removed it? She must have been doing some maintenance and forgot to rebuild the list properly. I will get her to add my car again. Tks for the heads up.

Hi All,

I just bought a beautiful 94 cab and was gonna post a few pix, when on my way to do a few errands my clutch pedal decided to not function anymore. Had to pull it back up by hand. It left a nice puddle of fluid underneath the car. I know the clutch itself is good. Is this the clutch line that has let go? Hydraulics and all?? Also what is a DME?

Thanks for any and all help. This forum has already helped me a lot and I've only been here a few weeks!

Happened to me 3 days after I had my car! The clutch line feeding the slave seems to be a weak point in the 968. I'll bet your puddle was i the same spot as mine.

I'm virtually certain the original mention of "DME" meant "DME relay" -- you've got deep pockets if you're keeping a working spare brain box in your glove compartment. DME relays have been an issue for at least the '86+ 944 and 968 lines.

DME == Digital Motor Electronics, or the computer that controls fuel injection, ignition timing, etc.

And reading this I'm glad I went ahead and got the stainless steel clutch slave cylinder cable when I had the flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate replaced. If you haven't seen it, search for a thread that has a link to a video of a factory-original cable that's so swollen it looks like a puffer fish.

I saw the video someplace, I was wondering who's 968 that was.....

Called Pete a few days ago as it has been a month since I ordered my parts! Seems the supplier of the lower brace was taking his sweet time anodizing the parts so he shipped only a week or so ago. Rats! Oh well, I ordered the rear seat delete carpet today so all should arrive about the same time. Insurance here I come!
