WTB: Cabriolet storage bins, cashmere
#1

Time for the rear seats to go in my coupe, looking to go with Cabriolet storage bins. Anyone got a line on some?

Cheers,

sort of - i have a set with cashmere doors and black carpet

something to keep in mind though - the boxes don't fit right in a hardtop - the sides are different - the cab side panels are much more intrusive in the cabin, due to the mechanisms for the top

The height is also different -- so end up with something that looks like this (BTW, I can be convinced to get rid of the storage bins in the photo).

Ah yes, I had wondered about the gap in photos of the various Cabriolet. I may still be interested in yours, flash, if you wanna get them out of your garage.

Joseph, would it be possible to take a couple of pics of the gaps and send them to me?

I like them, No one will notice unless you see allot of 944 people. Even then most will not notice the gaps.

It may show up more on lighter colors though.

Mirror, I am not able to post photos to this site but have a picture of my 968 Coupe with the Cabriolet storage bins and the rear seats removed. I made a level platform with no gaps on the sides and it looks very good. Just a little bit of plywood, an extra piece of rear carpet and some patience. Send me your email address and I shall send you the picture. Good luck, Bob Blackwell. bob0698@comcast.net

Mirror -- remind in two weeks (I'm off on vacation -- but will be more than happy to snap photos once I'm back).

That bin is not grey -- more of a linen beige color. Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen a linen beige interior on a 968..... (it's more of an early 944 interior color).

But after I get my act together, I will have a grey one up for sale. I'm going to have to bring the old wreck upto the Bay Area and part it out (sob....). That car had a grey interior.

Hey josephsc,

If you plan to part out your totaled 968 does it have a good front glove compartment unit? If so I want it!

I search many different venues for parts. It is a sickness.

I search all forums, classifieds (local and distant) and auction sites.

You could try calling some of the dismantelers, or posting a WTB thread.

I got lucky and found mine here last year.

I have found a nice cubby set for $400. The price is a bit high, but I've wasted enough time looking that it's worth it. Do the locks take a small separate key? I imagine I should make sure it comes with the key...

that price is high, but then again....i havnt seen a set for sale in a while. I bought mine for $225 iirc, And Pat may have picked his up for less then that. Last year and the year before that they were selling for 175-250 depending on color/condition.

Yeah, that's what Pat told me I should be able to find them for 4 months ago. I've been searching Ebay, craigslist, google, the porsche dismantlers...they are quite hard to find. I've found several in the wrong color.

Yes the locks are keyed differently than the ignition. Mine did not lock properly when I got the car so I took them to a locksmith and had them rekeyed - $100ish as I recall. Frankly the locks are pretty worthless but if you want them to work you may need to deal with a rekey.

I have a cashmere cubby, willing to let it go cheap, just collecting dust on my shop.

Shoot me a pm.
