Wrecked.

Members:

Two days ago I lost control of my 968 while down shifting from 3rd to 2nd to pass someone and I lost control of my near mint 94 968 cab. Weather was a typical fall day with rain and leaves -- well, the rear end started to fishtail and I tried like hell to get her under control only to find myself doing a (what seem like a 100) 360 and heading over a curb, through a construction fence and into a ditch. Physically okay, back hurts like hell -- mentally not so good - depressed as hell over it all, however, probably going to get worse once I hear from Porsche today on the damage.

Has anyone an idea what they value our cars at? I thought that I would wait to call Geico once I get the call from Porsche with the total in damages. I really hope that its not valued too low as I really want my car fixed and back home.

Happy Motoring,

Robert

Sorry to hear about your accident. At least you are ok.

Do a little research on the value of these cars.

That way you will be able to better negotiate with the insurance company.

First of all OUCH! Be glad that you are OK, cars can be fixed or replaced.

I would say that you should call your insurance ASAP. I believe that there is a time limit on how long after an incident you can make a claim (I think 5 days, but could be wrong).

Hope everything works out. At least you have the best time of year to start looking for a replacement if you need one.

Regards,

Jay

What year is your car and what was the mileage? I'll check the latest Excellence Market Update, if you haven't done that already. That will at least give you a better indication of the real worth versus the Kelley Blue Book.

i have been recently shopping for 2 cars, based on what i see, as well as a couple of recent totals and their payouts, a near mint 94 cab would be around 25k, depending on mileage, color, and transmission

basic guidelines:

deduct 1000 per 10k over 40k

deduct 2000 if it's a tip

deduct 1000 if it's white or red (don't blame me, it's the way the market goes)

you can add some if it's an odd color like yellow or coral red, or has a full leather interior

So, if I had a red coupe/tip with 200k on ODO I should give it away + $1k?

LOL

My car has 63,000 miles, 6 speed, Red Cabrio, waiting for the call from Porsche any minute now. I have pics of her in my gallery. Makes me sick cause she was mint. BTW - thanks for all the replies guys -- I appreciate it. Robert

Let us know what you find out. It will help us all to better figure out what others think our cars our worth.

If it makes you feel any better, I spun my car out in a similar fashion not to long ago. I was downshifting from 3rd to 2nd while rounding a corner in the rain and, like a rookie, let out the clutch in the middle of the turn rather than being in the correct gear before the turn. Back end broke free and I jumped the curb. Luckily no one else was on the road at that time or I might be in the same situation. Good luck finding a replacement.

lol - i expected some of this

yes, a 200k red tip coupe would be nearly worthless, and you would have to pay me to take one

yes, yellow is odd - rare for a reason - not a popular color - possibly because it is the most readily visible color to the human eye, and therefore the police - it tends to look plastic, like most solid colors, which makes it more difficult to give the car sexy lines - metallic colors are more popular and sell faster

a 63k red manual cab with perfect top and interior, and no chips or dings in the paint would be about 22k - i have actually been looking at a couple of red cars like that recently - in that mileage, they have been as low as 15k for a car in good shape, and 22k for perfect shape - i'm holding out for something with less than 40k on it, but very recent detailed market research (last week) has shown those to be the numbers

another thing i forgot to mention - location plays a lot in the price too - north eastern cars sell for less than anywhere else in the country, by a pretty fair margin - i am guessing the corrosion damage is the culprit - i know that i tend to shy away from north eastern cars for that reason - every engine bay i look at looks at least dull, and usually dirty or pitted or worse - the underside of the car is almost always a mess

yeah - i expect that is the norm back there - it's nothing against the owners, just the nature of the beast in an area with such cold and wet weather

Robert:

I'm sorry to hear of your 968. I've been toying with the idea of selling my 92 Red/Black cab 6 speed for the last month or so. It has 25,8xx miles and comes with LSD and factory 17s. It placed third in concours for Zone 8 in Santa Barbara in October and just had $5k of recent service including timing belt, fluids, water pump, etc. In addition I replaced the front valence under the bumber, the rubber seals on the rocker panels and door knobs. No expense has been spared. I even purchased a missing interior screw cover because I like the car perfect. Interior is like new and the car is stunning. If you are interested PM me or email me at shoshaggy@cox.net and I can show you some pictures. It's going to be featured in an upcoming book on Porsche North America by Randy Leffingwell. Best of luck with your 968.

Sorry to hear of the accident.

By appearance what did you notice was damaged outside of the paint? Assuming that you were on a flat road dropping into 2nd I assume that your speed wasn't ridiculously fast. Then again Ive seen accident s at 15MPH (but car on car) do significant damage.

Insurance adjuster has been out a few times to look at the car. She needs a new paint job, both left and right front fenders, front bumper, driver's side rocker panel, 3 18" Porsche sport Classic II rims and tires. So the verdict is still out on what is going to happen. From what I understand the adjuster is on the hunt for used fenders and bumpers to cut the repair cost. I found the rims at wheel enhancement for almost 1/2 of what Porsche wants so hopefully that will help in the decision. Robert

Well the verdict is in. Geico has decided to total my porsche! I am so Pi**sed off with them as they want to pay out 17.620.00 USD! I really cant believe this on a 63K mint cab. It makes me sick! On top of that I lost the money I paid out for the 18" porsche sport classic IIs !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mad as hell and need to vent. Thanks for listening. Robert
