Would like to buy 968, any help appreciated!
#1

Hi all, great site, friendly and terrific advice. I've been looking to buy a 968 for some time and just haven't quite found what I'm after, or maybe I'm not entirely sure what I want!! Looking for a lower miles 968 coupe, prefer black, not too picky on interior but prefer black/tan personally. I'm a medical resident so cash is tight and so is time for an overhaul so something in good condition. Moving to LA from PHX for 3 years for more training so any advice in terms of transmission would be great. Tiptronic vs manual in LA traffic?? Don't want to loose too much performance though! Been looking diligently on autotrader.com and carsearch.com. Thanks so much for any advice, much appreciated!

well, first off, welcome - i look forward to seeing you around at local events

any idea what kind of budget you are looking at? wheel size? how low mileage?

as for tip vs manual, L.A. traffic definitely sucks - but, my other half commutes to downtown from pacific palisades daily in a manual, and has for years - the performance loss is pretty significant, and the resale is a lot lower on a tip - it is easier to drive though - really a personal preference and priority thing there

i just saw a black one for sale in venice, but i haven't checked it out yet

there's been a black on in Venice on craigslist for a long time. I was looking at it when I was looking around at Xmastime. If it's the same one, I emailed the dealer who had it on consignment and they weren't too enthusiastic about the car's condition.

So, might be not in greatest condition. But also might be very soft on pricing.

i know the "dealership" - nice enough guys, but they really aren't too keen on 968s anyway, and i've heard that response about other 968s they've had on the lot - the whole place only holds about 20 cars, so you have to figure they are going ot put energy where they can make money

Thanks so much for the reply. To answer, I'd like to keep it around 85K or less in terms of miles if possible. And I think I might go with a manual, although I might prefer the auto in general, I can't imagine owning a 968 that isn't a 6 speed, seems to defeat the purpose... right? Would you get a California roll at Nobu? As for budget I'm hoping around 15K give or take a little. Let me ask you, are you happy with the color you have and is that stock? I did find another in a blue but the two look a little different though it may be lighting. What about cabrio vs coupe? I'll be living near UCLA in a condo or apt I hope and I'm just thinking the coupe may be a little safer/harder to break into/cheaper to insure and I don't have to worry about leaks... Any thoughts? Finally, is there a part of the country that I should avoid when looking? I know the northeast is very hard on cars buy beyond that, any advice on shopping/purchasing over the internet would be a huge help. Thanks so much!

And I'm sure you've heard it a million times, but your 968 is just phenomenal, nice work.

Hey, thanks so much for the reply. I checked Craigslist in LA and found one but it didn't say it was in Venice.... Don't know if that is the one you are referring to? If you can find it, let me know if you get a minute. Much appreciated

I'm going into anesthesia, just doing a year of general medicine in Phx before heading off to UCLA! Best
