Windshield Wiper Arms
#1

Out for a drive today and starting wondering if there are a less obstructive set of wiper arms that can be sourced from another model (or even make)? Any ideas?
I realize this thread might spin off into a debate about wind pressure and blade performance, but thought I'd ask anyway.

I agree - the wiper arms do stick up rather high. Noticed it right away when I got my car.

properly adjusted, they are really out of the way, and way down at the dash, you can draw a line through one and then the other

Flash,

My driver's wiper blade extends past the passengers wiper arm. Your pic looks like the driver's blade ends before the passenger's blade starts.
I thought that I purchased the right lengths.
What length are you using for driver and passenger?
I have 18.5" blade, tip to tip on the driver and 17.5" on the passenger.

I'll have to look at mine when I get home today to see how they are adjusted, but I must say I agree that they are quite obvious when you're driving. The other thing I wouldn't mind changing is the nozzles for the windshield washer fluid. I had a Ford Contour that sprayed the fluid rather than jetting, it, I wonder If I could manage a swap.

Remove them and use lots of rainX.
I did this for a few months last summer.

Haha, that's the funny thing. I don't use them to remove rain from the windshield, I use them to remove dirt. I can't remember the last time it rained here.

So i take it that's a negative on alternate wiper arms?

Pretty sure what 968Gene meant, and what I'm talking about, is not the position of the wiper blades at rest, relative to the bottom edge of the windshield, but the short part of the wiper arms that goes from the posts to the hinges.

If you're sitting in your car and look at your wiper arms, this piece curves up near the hinge end, putting the wiper arm up and away from the windshield a few inches, unnecessarily it seems to me. My driver's side wiper arm pretty much blocks my view of the front of the car when I'm behind the wheel.

So the question is, is there a different wiper arm available that will position the arms closer to the windshield? This will look cleaner I think (I'm not crazy, am I?) and improve visibility.

PS - anyone tried those new one-piece Michelin wiper blades?

sounds like something is wrong with your wiper arm - do you see the shot above? that is what they should look like, and should not block your view

So we had a chance to use the wipers in anger last week (OK I watch too much F1). At first they clucked like ducks. I think I had too much Invisible Glass with RainX on. Took a while to remove that and they quieted down.

The interesting bit was when we discovered the "intermittent" setting. I did not even know this car had that. Boy talk about intermittent - we timed it out at 23 seconds. Anyone ever modded this to a shorter interval?

There is an adjustment for the interval rate located on the dash below the instrument cluster next the left of the defrost on/off. It is a thumbwheel with a wiper symbol next to it.

Hey, Chris and I are both in California and we knew it! lol The one control that drove me nuts was the trip meter reset. I flew to southern California to pick up my cab when I bought it and wanted to start the drive back with the trip meter at "0". For the life of me I couldn't figure out how to reset it. I looked everywhere, tried every button and knob. I knew it HAD to be there somewhere. Only after I looked it up on my iPad did I find that little sucker masquerading as an air vent louver!

Having a few beers at the moment and this thread has me laughing out loud! The other customers must wonder what I am looking at on my laptop!

"trip meter reset" - I found that one when I was wiping the dash down the first time! I thought I had broken the vent fin at first! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/laugh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
