grilles arrived. looked great. all packed and shipped now.

since none of them got damaged (they are pretty frail when not installed, so i wasn't sure how it would go) i now have 3 "extras"

synchro said he had dibbs on one

that leaves 2. they can be ordered on the website.

all grilles now sold

i wanted to make a note about installation. obviously you need to remove the bumper cover to do it. once you do that, removal of the grille is very straight forward. it has been so long though that i cannot remember if there were little washers under the retaining screws or not. if so, reuse them. if not, drag your butt to home depot and get some washers. you may want to paint them black too, unless you want to source some black ones. like i said, it has been 7 years since i first did this, and i've just been reusing what i have in there ever since.

Is there a DYI anywhere about removing the bumper cover?

there was one here. i'm not sure it's still here or not. it's a pretty simple process though. i can drop a bumper cover in 6 minutes. i did it in a demo in my garage, completely unprepared with no tools ready or anything, in under 10 minutes.

I'm guessing it's all in knowing where the screws are. That's what I was hoping to find out.

When I got home last night I was thrilled to see the delivery of the much anticipated D1R lower grill. Unfortunately, on examining the package it really looked like UPS must have decided to use it as a lever to wedge more stuff into their plane/van since there was a nice crease in the cardboard!

Reading the earlier post on how fragile the screen is when it is off of the car made me wonder what I would find when I open the packaging(see pics). To my surprise, and confidence that flash has dealt with these issues before, there was a thin sheet of plywood inside for structural support! Even though it was snapped and the grill slightly bent, the powder coating was intact and I am sure it will pull flat when installed.

Once again, flash has "engineered" a method to combat the realities of cross country shipping (northeast PA). Now all I have to do is wait out the winter storm to take off the 20+ year old broken plastic factory mesh and put a much needed & updated version on!

Thanks for the extra effort in packaging. Although, I am sure it avoids a lot of headaches in the long run, especially if it got mangled up and no more are available! I hope everyone else who got one has success with the delivery!

geez - that's 2 that have been damaged. luckily yours did not crack the powder coating. not so lucky on the other one. what the heck are they doing over at UPS? did i need to put "fragile" labels on these?
