Who else has a IXVI8 plate ?
#1

Other than mine, which is the only one in California, I only know about J.C. in Florida ( I think.. ). Anybody else here ?

And...if that wasn't enough my MBZ has a license plate frame which reads " my other car is a ___ " surrounding the plate which is : 96VIII

I blame all this on Roman ancestors

Unfortunately customized LPs in Ca ( in the particular design I want ) only fit a maximum of 6 characters on them so the 5 I picked was pretty much the only option.

Ha, ha.. No " jersey guidos " in my ancestry. That said, I did trace my lineage all the way back to 101 A.D. and was able to determine this : although my Roman roots are well documented up to that point, what remains a bit unclear is the exact individuals involved, but narrowed down to two possibilities : I am either the descendent of : 1) Emperor Trajan and the daughter of Dacian royalty , or, 2 ) Flavius Penis Maximus, a roman soldier who raped and pillaged ( mostly raped, his colleagues did all the pillaging ) a lot of the womenfolk in the villages they trashed. Still researching this, but won't change my license plate regardless of what the real answer is..

Well of course rape and pillage provides a wonderful ancestry. Back then I suppose it was akin to sports in affording one the opportunity to succeed! You can just hear when your ancestor was being interviewed for the job, " we'll Mr. DS what qualities and experience do you bring to the job?" " Well sir, I have my degree in rape and pillage and have five years experience in my previous job." "I also received the employee of the year from RAPE( rape and pillage entertainment) council. Currently I am attending the Pillage Institute to get my Master's degree and hope to be able to teach the younger generation and provide them with my knowledge and experience to help them get jobs in the industry.

yeah, For FL I wanted a Florida Gator Plate, and that comes with a 5 character max. I tried 968, 9SIX8 and 96ATE, but they were all taken. I actually wondered what those meant for someone else..... but settled on IXVI8.

I can imagine anything that even hints of a gator is long gone in Fl ( lol, I wonder how many FLG8RS requests still come in to the DMV every year from people thinking it's not yet taken ) but bummer 96ATE was not available , you would've had both the car model and the gators' most feared characteristic.

this applies to all cars, and not just ours:

i get clever plates like "NTABXTR". i love creative, and whimsical plates.

what i don't get is restating the obvious, like the make or model of the car. for example, just how many times do you need to say "porsche" or "968" on the car anyway?

The one I REALLY wanted was 96G8R. That was gone, too. Presumably by some one who graduated from UF in 1996.....

And IXVI8 is actually cryptic to those not on the Forums. I've had a ton of people ask what it meant.... while staring at it..... with the numbers 968 RIGHT above it....

don't get me wrong, everybody is certainly entitled to do what they want. i just don't get it.

i am guilty of having a plate that is confusing too. i would have done something different, but to get the background pattern i wanted, i had to lose one character. that made the word more difficult to read. i may yet change my plate. at the time, i was using the car for the production company, and taking the write off. now, i'm not so much, and should probably shift that.

I get 50% grins and thumbs up, and 50% questions, usually "What does NOT A BAXTER mean?"

I know I'm CDN but isn't BAXTER just Boxster with a Boston accent? It all works in Mass.

Nope, that'd be "BOKSTAH" in Boston, and "BAHKSTAH" in Upstate NY, Ohio and Michigan.

Case in point, I was just getting in the car after walking out of a store and an older gentleman opens his car door and trots across the parking lot saying "Excuse me!". So I stop and watch him almost get run over because he's not paying attention, and then he says "My wife and I have been sitting over there (in their silver New Beetle) trying to figure out what that means", and he points to my license plate.

So I say - "It means it's "Not A Boxster", and he looks at me funny, and repeats the word "Boxster" queryingly. So I explain that Boxsters are the most common Porsche on the road nowadays (I used the term "like popcorn"), and how the 968 was only made for a few years and is a much rarer car.

He seemed satisfied with that and returned to the car to tell his wife.

And *that* my friends, is the second 50%.
