What's it worth?
#1

I've decided to sell my 94 coupe, and I'm not sure where to start with price. All opinions are welcome, good or bad. I'll describe the condition as accurate as possible.

Current mileage is just over 195K.

As I stated in a thread a few months ago, there is a noise in the rear similar to the pinion bearing whine. I've had it on a rack and the noise is coming from the rear end. Not horrible, but quite noticeable.

Alpine white paint is in decent shape. There's been a repaint on front and rear bumper covers, as well as the right front fender. Clear coat is starting to come off the fender. Overall it looks good from a short distance.

Wheels are 16" cup. Only 1 large scratch, but all need recoating. Tires are el cheapos with good tread.

Some wear on drivers seat but not bad. Dash is excellent. Steering wheel and shift boot have noticeable wear. Carpet is pretty good with drivers side showing its age a bit.

Engine seems to run strong as ever, with hardly any oil consumption. There is a minor leak on the right (passenger) side. Complete belt service was done at 163k. I don't have documentation so I realize that's worth pretty much nada. Complete tune up in the fall of 2010. I didn't record the mileage, but it was most likely mid 180's. No clutch issues, although to the best of my knowledge, it's never been replaced.

Ac, heat, cruise all work perfectly. E brake holds...nothing. Could be pads, could need adjustment, I don't know. All glass is excellent.

I'm sure there's more I should have listed, but maybe that's enough to get an opinion or two. I do have a dollar amount in mind that I don't think is unrealistic, but I could be wrong.

Sorry if I placed this under the wrong category, but I really wasn't sure where to go with it.

Jbarclay, with the utmost respect to your beloved vehicle, I'm sorry to say this one would be a "pass" if I were a prospective buyer. The mileage, finish, belt job, pinion failure, and other miscellany would overwhelm me.

I post my response in the spirit of honest feedback, and I hope you won't be too offended by my "remote assessment".

There's someone out there for every car. Good luck!

Thank you for the reply. I'm not offended in the least. I realize the up coming repairs will be sizeable. Just trying to get an idea what people think it's worth in the present condition.

I just bought one that isn't much different than yours...paint is decent but some of the clear is comming off. No dings or dents. Nice wheels and tires. The interior is used and will need to be restored. Driver seat and everything else that is used on the operation of the vehicle is worn. Verbal service records and 220K miles. The car runs but sure thing I'm going to go thru the whole engine, drive train and suspension before I drive it any faster than 55. I paid $4K for the car on eBay.

Excellent info. Sounds like mine has better interior, and yours better wheels and tires. Similar otherwise. Thanks. I still drive mine as hard as I ever did....almost.
