What's it worth?
#1

OK guys in view of my purchase of the KW race suspension going on in 4 weeks I will have a bunch of Mo30 stuff coming off. I need to get an idea of what it's worth. It consists of front adjustable Koni's which have been just totally rebuilt inc. revalving and shortened shaft to marry with custom stiffer/shorter springs. Ergo the springs as well + collars and top mounts. I also have my original turbo 's' sway bars which are front 26.8mm and rear 18mm. Also there are the rear Koni's and 968cs helper springs which have done all of 500miles. Basically whatever comes off will be up for sale. To give you an idea of replacement value in Australia the front Koni's are worth something like $2500 each without springs, top mounts! Did someone say each???!! The Mo30 top mounts are $1000 pair. The rear shocks, springs, and collars cost me $1600 for the set. I have a few guys interested here and that would be easier to ship I guess, but they don't want to pay much past $2500 for the lot. I'm just wondering what you guys would value a bolt on Mo30 suspension pack at?

I will convert to US dollars and you could convert from $Aussie just to see what we pay for stuff all the way down under.

if you are setting up a restoration or concours car, then it's worth something for sure - for a daily driver, or a car you are going to modify, there is a lot better stuff out there in aftermarket, that won't cost nearly as much - you can basically duplicate the shock/strut/spring package for less than 2k

none of this affects the desire for originality though - however, age plays into this one a lot - if they are original, they are on their way out anyway, requiring an expensive renewal

that makes selling the stuff tough - this package has popped up a couple of time recently - generally lately i've seen the entire strut/shock/spring setup go for about a grand

if the shocks and struts are new or nearly new in age, not miles, then they could be worth more

if it comes with the hubs, brakes and all that, then certainly it is worth more

i think it is really going to come down to the indiviual buyer's desire and timing

good luck

Damn.... Why the heck does everything cost so much down there? Those are insane prices!

These are just my opinion and thoughts (in US prices and USD):
It consists of front adjustable Koni's which have been just totally rebuilt inc. revalving and shortened shaft to marry with custom stiffer/shorter springs. I'd personally go with the Paragon-Products's Koni setup that let's you run standard 2.5" springs, with adjustable ride height. It sound a little butchered to me, and wouldn't consider them....
I also have my original turbo 's' sway bars which are front 26.8mm and rear 18mm.
The desirable ones are the front 30mm and rear adjustable 19mm. The front 26.8mm might fetch $100 on eBay. The rear 18mm is very common (all 951's used them) -- maybe worth $50.
Also there are the rear Koni's and 968cs helper springs which have done all of 500miles.
People seem to want these -- I'd say up to $300 for the pair.

Sell them in Australia. That kind of money will be very very hard to find in the US.

Thanks guys. Yes it would be the only way to go by selling these in Oz. Something is only worth as much as someone else is prepared to pay for it. Just for your edification a decent 968 would cost approx. $35-$45k here which is about $26-$34k US. So thank your lucky stars in this regard. However it's all relative. A small price to pay for living in the best country in the world.

I might argue about it being the "best country in the world" For one, your toilet's whirlpool spins backwards, I don't think I could live in a country like that. Then we have the seasons all wrong, Summer in December, winter in July, I don't think I could ever get used to that either. Add in all these crazy prices for 968's and their parts...

Well I don't spend that much time studying which direction the water spins in the bathroom, but hey whatever floats your boat. As for the seasons being the 'wrong' way around what's wrong with having a Roast Turkey for christmas in 100*F heat? I've been to the US and there were some really nice parts and people but we find that people move to Australia not away from it. As for the price of parts, well yes they are ridiculous but waddaya do?

RSR services in Melbourne have an arrow Blue 968 CS M030 for sale at $62,500 Australian! They have just sold one for a similar price - that's more than a 2.5 Boxter. God Bless Australia but the prices on Euro cars a silly.

I've just bought a midnight blue 968CS M030 and love it to bits but for the same money I could have bought a new 350 Z - makes you think...

Where are you 333pg333? I'm in Syndey and would like to meet fellow 968 nuts.

Hi Dinky Di

I'm also in Sydney and have a 944turbo. If you need the best mechanic for front engined-water cooled P-cars let me know as it is worth it to have the best. Give me a call and I'll put you in touch with him. The Dealerships don't know and don't want to. Worth getting your car out to the track too that is if you don't already.
