The highest VIN North American coupe out there is SS820319. It is a black/black 6spd car that went to Canada. The summer yellow coupe (color to sample - solid) is SS820318.

If those cars exist, they never made it to the US. They are not part of the regular production run so Gilder's car is #8 in the regular production run of coupes.

I think you're right about that these cars may never have made it to the US. They have US VIN numbers though. And Porsche never threw pre production cars away (like other manufacturers did) as can be read on German Porsche forums. I'm pretty sure that at least some are still in existence.

What’s quite interesting when studying the car data is that all those Neckarsulm cars have S2 engines and are loaded with options! I can post the factory data here of someone’s interested.

I've got my data directly from Porsche. Since I'm mainly interested in the 4-cilinder cars I only have data of the 924, 944 and 968 starting from the '81 model year. At the moment my DB contains 229239 cars which I will eventually make available for everyone on a web page. It’s a quite time consuming process (i.e. normalization) so this will not be anytime soon :-(

I miss colour and interior info but apart from that all data is there. I might be missing data of some cars as well so I would be very interested in your help to verify the numbers especially since there's no data available (books, internet etc.) which is 100% correct. All the 20+ books I’ve read on the subject so far contain a lot of errors regarding this.

Looks like the European spec prototypes were better equipped then the US ones. Interesting to see is that the prototypes which are equipped with an automatic gearbox (i.e. 1 and 4) are given gearbox code G08.3F (S2, 5 speed).

I agree that there is a lot of wrong information out there. I have been collecting just 968 data for 14 years and have a complete cabriolet database and I should be done with the coupes shortly. Below are the numbers I have for the North American production which includes the Canadian cars and a couple with German emissions as well. I've left your numbers to the left of mine:

I checked all 4 on CarFax and none of them have any history here in the US so as I suspected, they never made it here.
The option codes you listed for these 4 are pretty standard here in the US. Too bad you don't have the exterior and interior codes. I have seen that the earlier cars have some of the more unusual exterior/interiors.

Bob, you're right. I thought this was the other aventurine M030 car. For some reason I was thinking Jim/Pete's car had the black/marble gray interior (which you would find on the other car).

Ive scanned through the registries, looks like about 7 968's with white ext on light grey int. 4 coupes, 3 cabs? Im thinking about going with black carpet, and light grey floormats tho. Reversing it from how it is now.

It is a rare combo. The thing about it is there is another combo that is similar for the 94.5 to 95s called black/marble gray.

As for counts, I'm not yet done with the coupe registry but here is what I have:
