Hello 968ers. I didn't notice this thread until Jay kindly pointed it out to me (sorry Bob). I do have all the details but let me post the information you need so you can figure out what number 968 you have.
First, a couple of items. Keep in mind we are talking North American 968 production (US and Canada) so you'll only be able to figure out where you fall in that range.
Second, there is some misinformation out there when it comes to regular model year 968 production. There is never a car with a VIN of #1. Porsche always started the sales production range with #61 for each model year. So, use the range information below to figure out where your car falls (or if you don't want to do the math send me a PM):
Coupes - Total production: 2,234
MY 1992 coupes produced: 649 VIN Range: NS820061 - NS820709 Seq# range: (1-649)
MY 1993 coupes produced: 608 VIN Range: PS820061 - PS820668 Seq# range: (650-1257)
MY 1994 coupes produced: 718 VIN Range: RS820061 - RS820778 Seq# range: (1258-1975)
MY 1995 coupes produced: 259 VIN Range: SS820061 - SS820319 Seq# range: (1976-2234)
Cabriolets: - Total production: 2,008
MY 1992 cabriolets produced: 667 VIN Range: NS840061 - NS840727 Seq# range: (1-667)
MY 1993 cabriolets produced: 354 VIN Range: PS840061 - PS840414 Seq# range: (668-1021)
MY 1994 cabriolets produced: 681 VIN Range: RS840061 - RS840741 Seq# range: (1022-1702)
MY 1995 cabriolets produced: 306 VIN Range: SS840061 - SS840366 Seq# range: (1703-2008)
Examples:
My 92 cab is NS840069 so my car is #9 of model year 92 and all the cabs.
95 Coupe SS820085 is #25 for MY 1995, #2000 in the full production range.
Have fun.
