Water Leak?
#1

I found water on the floor of the passenger rear footwell area. A lot, soaked it up, and I'm waiting to see what happens when it rains. There were no other signs of leakage anywhere (dry). I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this?
The only other cause I can think of is a hand car wash I went to recently, and I'm wondering if the person cleaning spilled water in the rear and didn't tell me.

Yup, sounds like the usual story, plugged rear sunroof drains. Small piece of modellers fibreglass rod snakes well or some #10 single conductor.

I'm going to say sunroof drain tubes as well, but instead of being plugged, it may be detached. Check your seat bottom to see if it's wet as well. he rear tubes go down the rear hatch side panel and empty through a hole in the respective side cubby. Many times if your cubby gets full of water, it's because the drain tube has pulled out of it's exit hole.

Here's how to test: Take your sunroof out, pour a large cup of water slowly and directly into the drain tube hole. Once you pour the cup of water into the drain tube hole, you should see roughly the same amount peeing out from behind the rear wheel on that side. If it doesn't appear to drain at all or you get less out then you put in, you are probably clogged. If you don't get anything out but it appears to drain, then the water is running down the "C pillar" and will saturate the bottom of the seat and spill over into the foot well.

Thanks as well.

I'll look into that, thanks for the detail. Hope that takes care of it before we have 4 months of rain.

Thanks everyone, but the solution turned out to be unexpected.
Car was at the body shop recently and they plugged the drain holes while they worked on the car.
I just took them out, I think that is it.
A little embarrassing

Unless your body shop is a friend of yours or long time trusted business associate, I'd say the embarrassment should be for them and you should bring it to their attention. Someone only did 90% of their job and you had to deal with the results. Nice of them to know enough to plug the holes though. Just my .02!

There is one other source of water that can find its way to the rear passenger seat footwell on the right side. It is possible for water to accumulate in the battery box, especially if the drain is plugged. There is a seam in the box that is sealed with a mastic of some sort that becomes brittle with edge and may allow water to pass through the seam. If this occurs the water will along the bottom of the passenger door sill and accumulate in a low spot along the right side of the rear passenger footwell. The water actually flow underneath the carpeting and soaks through.

I discovered this after a couple of really heavy rainstorms were the car was parked outside all day. A carwash that is heavy on the water use will also cause the same problem.
