Ted, do you need to buy or just borrow one?

I have a complete spare DME. Email me if you still need a chip.

Guys,

The "chip" in our cars is just a standard off the shelf EPROM that can be bought from a number of electronic suppliers. There is nothing at all special about this part. It is just a standard memory chip programmed to work in the cars. The program can be read off of one chip and programmed to another at will. I already have the stock program files on my computer (in fact, I have played around and created some performance files also.)

From memory, I believe the memory chip is a 27C512 in a DIP package but I would need to verify that (the part number not the package.) This is not a manufacturer specific part. Digikey has these in OTP (one time programmable) versions for $1.71. The UV-erasable versions are a bit over $3. The latter can be reprogrammed many times. Ted, I think this fits your requirement of being cheap.

Once you have the memory chip you will need to program it. This too is simple and any standard device programmer that will handle DIP (dual inline pin) packages should do the job. Example - EMP-11 Programmer. I realize that not everyone has one of these. Ted, I am actually about to make an order with Digikey and if you want I can order you an EPROM and program it with the stock program. (I will verify the EPROM part number.) I won't charge you anything to do this except for my out of pocket costs.

edit- After reading your second post I realize maybe you only need the stock chip in order to read out the stock binary? If so I can save you the trouble and email you the stock binary that I have already uploaded.

Brett, that would be awesome if you could email me the stock binary file! We needed the stock chip just so we could read it. I have not use for the chip itself.

Bruce, I will let you know if that does not work out. Thanks!
