Vertex rebuilt arms
#1

It's about time for my control arm ball joints to be replaced. I definately do not want to spend the money on new so Vertex will rebuild my oe arms for $199 each. Or they sell rebuilt 944 arm and you give them your cores. Only thing is the 944 arms do not have the brake duct mount. What do you guys think!!!!!!

They(Vertex) say rebuildable except there is no circlip or epoxy where the ball joint attaches. Looks like a pressed fit.

I seem to recall the early year 968's could rebuild the arms, but not the late. You might want to talk with Travis over at http://www.rennbay.com/ he was the one that created the ball joint rebuild kits for the 944's many years ago. He would know about what can and can not be rebuilt.

Thanks for the referral Banditsc!! After talking to Travis at Rennbay, these 968 arms are not rebuildable and should NOT be rebuilt. In the meantime he is looking for good used pair.

Ok...the ball joints are good and all I needed were the ball joint boots. Mine were both ripped. I installed a set of new bj boots from Rennbay(Travis) filled them with grease and all is good once again. Simple, simple job!!!!!

I was told that a loose left lower control arm ball joint could be sent out and "reconditioned", which would include the aft bushing. Very pricey (>$800). That looks like at least 2X (including a $200 - $400 for labor) Kevin's "rebuild" cost, which you all say should not be rebuilt. Hmmmm....

Looking for help on this one...

Thanks

I would try to find a good used set. Call Travis at Rennbay, he knows of a few. Although I heard that the 'rebuildable" units use a cheapo VW ball joint that does not last. I personally would not go this route JMO.

Hi Guys, I think it must be possible to replace ball joint. This company is very highly thought of here in the UK Hartech They are sold on a exchange basis and I have never heard that they will only exchange older arms.
