US Grand Prix
#1

Attention, anyone who has been to the US GP, I need some advice. Looking to go to the 2015 GP in Austin. Best Seats? Gran Prix tours has a nice package for $1700 per person with lots of extra activities but doesn't include tickets. It would probably be cheaper to book the hotel on my own but I like the extras on the GP Tour package. Anyway let me know what is good.

Been there twice, will go again this year. Best seats ( IMO ) are in Grand Stand 15 / Turn 15  as you will have a vantage of roughly 70% + of the entire track, and you're close to where most overtaking happens as well.  Tickets are $ 700 ,  GS 15 has real seats as opposed to  bleacher seats in the majority of turns grand stands, which are about $ 550.  Well worth the difference as far as I'm concerned.   GS 12/ turn 12 is also a good spot, as long as you're in the section closest to GS 15.   Hotel prices are typically 2X to 3X the regular room rates, even if booked now in January..and the hotels sell out pretty fast.. first time I went there we waited to book the hotel until June and the closest one we found was about 45 miles away from the track.

The preface to this post ( whose content I edited / removed now, since it was a duplicate of the previous post ) was a PSA indicating my original post disappeared.  Later on and just as bizarre, the face page of the "view new posts" showed both my reply as well as RAP's reply on that thread title, but when I clicked on the actual thread to read RAP's post the only post that showed up was Cosimos .   So either new software gremlins at work, or, we're in Brigadoon. Tongue

Seems to work now though..

This is part of the software upgrade, sorry for the inconvenience.

In my case, it was very helpful to empty my cache and browsing history.

I skipped 2014's GP because I really detest what changing the engines last year did to the exhaust note ( it's now a wimpy, muted, pathetic sound ..by comparison.. ) and since that's such a huge part of the experience those cars bring to the table it's no wonder tne attendance has been the lowest in recent history at almost all venues on the circuit. Austin was one of the exceptions. But tne constructors are working feversly on the exhaust systems, alongside the other changes to the cars hoping to bring back some of that lost appeal. Regardless, with so many drivers and teams shifts / musical chairs this year, Honda coming back into the mix, Mercedes making a few concessions under pressure from

Bernie , F1 ownership split, racing rule changes, etc , etc it should be a highly interesting and exciting season. That, coupled witn Austin which is a fantastic host city witn so many things to offer in addition to THE best track on the entire circuit ( according to the majority of drivers but more importantly according to afficionados and spectators alike ) I am compelled to go there again. Made all the hotel and flights reservations, bought my tickets and this may sound strange but also made restaurants reservations ! Sheesh, 9 months in advance, that's alsmost as bad as getting into a trendy Los Angeles restaurant :-). Going with the same two friends ; we went to the Montreal GP in '11 , Austin in '12 ( inaugural ) and the. In '13. Pretty tight schedule since one of those friends' daughter lives in Austin and we'll spend the evenings with her and her boyfriend, but if Cosimo or anyone else here is going to the race we should definitely connect and meet at the track on Saturday or Sunday - arriving Friday evening, so we're skipping the practice sessions day.

I am an F1 fan, and I approve this message :-) :-)

I have heard the engine exhaust of TV, which is no comparison to being there live. I was at the Italian GP in Monza and the exhust noise was deafening but spectacular. Still trying to decide whether to go. I appraciate all the info.

Ugh, today was a complete bust . ( and not the good kind of " bust " ..all those were covered up by rain gear , lol . ) With the exception of a brief practice session everything else was cancelled so after several hours of waiting in vain and with " raindrops keep falling on my head " , I took my canoe and eventually paddled out of that place . The forecast tomorrow good enough to have COTA and F1 announce they'll cram both the qualifying runs and the race in the same day ( which I think may be a first ever for F1 ?? )

That should make it very interesting for the drivers ..and good for the spectators as I anticipate we may be in for some crazy stuff happening . But a great dinner tonight accompanied by equally great tequila and great bottles of wine took the edge off an otherwise disappointing day so it wasn't all bad..

Got it set on my TIVO, got my surround sound system warmed up, affordable cold beer in the fridge. Only added an extra hr for rain, may have to reconsider a longer recording time after today. My wife said she'd spray me with water occasionally so I'll feel like I'm there.
