Update on my Summer projects... Pics
#1

So Rustech was asking for some pics of the new garage door... Well here are some of my garage project and the backyard. (This was a very skinny 21x17 two car garage) I just wrapped up all my electrical today. EVERYTHING WORKS AND THE PLACE DID NOT BURN DOWN WOO HOO!!! Saturday we tape and mud. Another week or two she should be completed! The guys came last week and hung the ceiling drywall best $500 I have spent well... since the $800 I paid to have the concrete ripped out from the driveway. I love the garage door and Idrive never thought I would get so excited about a door...

Here is the other project that has been going on for the passed 3 weeks. I had 2000 Sqft of paver and grass stone laid. ( The stone with the holes will have grass growing in the holes, it will look very cool) It was fun watching these guys do their trade. I have to give it to them this is a hard job. It turned out amazing! I live in a 1920's Historic Neighborhood in Denver so we get lots of families walking their kids and dogs. If I am outside everyone wants to chat about them. Since I am so excited, I give them the grand tour everytime lol! As much fun as it was to watch them do the work I am sooooo glad to see them get their trailor, Pallets of stone, piles of sand and dirt, and trash off the street. I highly recommend Pavers especially in climates like Denver. The whole backyard and shop is coming togeather too...slow but surely!

Stunning! Seems like you're having a blast with your projects. There sure isn't that much detail on CA homes.

That motor sure is small. Amazing it can lift the weight of the door. Is there a spring assist?

In picture 799, there is an iron piece leaning up against the wall, is that a gate, or soon to be "wall piece"?

Did you have a hard time sealing the garage against the brick? Lot's of Henry's tar etc?

Is your fountain fiberglass, or plaster/clay? I've been looking at fountains, and it seems like the majority these days are plastic/fiberglass composite (hardware stores). I like the weight a durability, but can't bring my self to buying "fake".

Thanks for any answers.

Nope it has two gears and very powerful. Very quiet too.

"In picture 799, there is an iron piece leaning up against the wall, is that a gate, or soon to be "wall piece"?"

See attached pic they are "wall art" we picked up 4 of them from Costco on closeout for $50/ea they were $229 so we bought the remaining four. We have one hung in our "Shabby Sheek" bedroom Nicole dry brushed it white that one turned out cool. Outside we used two of them as an Ivy trelis over the planter boxes. They are made out of alluminum with a faux patina. We are having a a wrot iron gate and fence made to go between the garage and house seperating the driveway from the fountain area it is only 3.5' high with lots of detail.

"Did you have a hard time sealing the garage against the brick? Lot's of Henry's tar etc?"

The garage has not leaked so I don't know. I went up on the roof and it appeared to be installed when they did the house 3 years ago. They do use tar up there. The garage has two types of brick the outside and inside are different. they make up about 18" So the insolation in the garage is fantastic. The slab on the other hand had cracks everywhere some as big as a .75" in some runs. When we get a good rain water soaks up through the cracks. So I used a crack filler concrete from HD went through 6 buckets and put a new .25" layer down in the garage and sealed it. I also went around and filled gaps, cracks, etc with the can foam stuff they sell then dried and filled with silicone for the added protection. The garage does not leak anywhere.

We picked it up at a Mexican import yard outside of Taos NM. It weighs probably 800Lbs made out of concrete and plaster then faux to give it that color. It came in 9 peices the bottom two being the heaviest. We were driving through Taos to visit my Dad in Santa Fe and stopped to check out this store and fell in love with this fountain we had been looking for some time. They offered to transfer it to their Colorado spring store so we bought it and picked it up a few weeks later. I have everything plumbed into the garage and I bought an electronic timer wall switch so it is programmed to go on and off automatically or manually.

Well I got more done this weekend. Friday dumped 25 bags of soil to fill the holes that would later take the grass patches, Thenwe cut 18 rolls of sod into 4" squares and stuck them in the holes in the grass stone. I estimated 3000 holes were filled. Saturday morning I got up and started taping and filling the screw holes. Then I got started again this morning and skimed the joints and went over the screw holes again. Also squared up my corners with aluminum corners and mud. She is coming togeather tomorrow after work I will sand and hopefully we can throw texture on the walls on Wed.

You got a real bargain on that wall art. Susanna and I are looking for some similar stuff for the indoors.

What kind of grass did you use for the holes? Are you going to mow it regularly or let it clump?

What kind of lighting are you going with in the garage? Flourescent tubes? Low voltage halogens look real neat when suspended across the garage.

They are intended to go indoors but we figured they would be great as a trelis too.

I purchased 4 lots of 12 comercial track lights. Last weekend I picked up 36 halogen flood and spot lights at a "Design Expo" going out of business sale for 50% off. So I am into my lighting for $250. I will be using 30+ of the track lights in the garage.

I am also using some mirrors on the angled portion of the wall near the ceiling.

Th sod we purchased is the same as our lawn "Kentucky Blue grass" It is very hearty. As it gets settled we will have the landscape guy mow it. That won't be for another month though. I added 4 heads to the sprinkler system to get the new areas watered.

Wow Eric, that place is really coming together. The only thing left is it needs a name. All great architectural edifices have a name!

How about:

Green Acres - no, that has a pig connotations

Rocky Mountain High - naa, that guy is dead

Big Country - too 80's

Money Pit - yea, thats it! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

I was checking out "garage junkies" and found someone else that installed the I-drive with "dual" spring assists (his doors perhaps are heavier). I'm still amazed yours didn't need them.

EDIT:

According to the Wayne Dalton website, the spring assist is inside the tube.

So it appears he doesn't have the "torquemaster" spring centered tube and just added the i-drive to his existing system.

Yeah they have two types the spring assist type is supposed to have more problems. It is also intended for heavier doors. It looks like he extended the track so that might be another reason he went with that type. I love the Idrive it is very quiet. Also the new door has a great seal all the way around.
