Unique OEM 968 accessories?
#1

Prompted by a new member from the UK who mentioned he has the factory 968 rear hitch assembly, post up your unique / NLA / odd / whatever factory 968 accessories... Aftermarket need not apply!

I have, courtesy of my car's PO, the original 944/968 cabriolet ski rack assembly NIB. Do I ski? I have before, maybe 4 times total, but not for at least 6 years. Will I ever ski again? Probably not. If I do ski again, will I install the ski rack and take the 968 cab? HELL NO! Why do I have the ski rack? Why not?!

I also have a NIB Techart rear cab spoiler. Not from the factory, but it was/is Porsche OEM with a Porsche PN.

I'll grab some photos and post them later.

Can't wait to see what everyone has!

i really like the techart rear spoiler for the cab. It would be a must have if i owned a cab.

i have mixed emotions about it - i can't seem to make up my mind

the very 80s look of that unit really dates the car (reminding me of when they threw those things on everything, regardless of whether or not it worked) - assuming you would go fast enough for it to make a difference, that one mangles the aerodynamics (very different on a cab than a hardtop)

but it would also give me something to grab onto to open and close the boot, which is sorely needed

i've passed on a couple of them, and probably should have just bought one by now, just to have it in case i ever made a decision

You can get a fiberglass replica on UK Ebay for a lot less money than the Techart. You could always grab one of those to see if you like it or not.

I'm still undecided on it. I have it if I ever want to install it though so that makes me happy for the time being.

lol - yeah - i completely understand that one - you had more nerve than me though and bought one on the chance you might like it

I have one sitting in a box, haven't made any decisions on it yet, but figured I would jump on it when I saw it.

I know I like it on darker cars, like Eric Sandoval's old 968. But I am not sure if I like it on lighter colors. I do believe no drilling is required to install it, but I am not 100% sure. I could always try it if there is no drilling and see if I like it.

That's exactly what I did. And now, in the immortal words of Jay, I have a fine piece of garage jewelry! Guess I'll have to figure out if I like it or not soon! Garage space for me is at a premium, especially with Winter right aroung the corner...

No drilling is required, just a couple clamps on both sides and some double sided tape underneath it.

I considered myself fortunate that my car came with the following:
all books and booklets including the leather binder.
A cargo net (that I cant figure out how it hooks)
air compressor
tool kit complete with tow hook
ear cargo area shade curtain.
and a gray Porsche drawstring bag with red letters.

Standard or not, I'm lucky I got them considering the car was 14 yrs old and had been through 2 owners when I got it

i also felt fortunate to, in addition to those things, have (not on the build sheet):

porsche 968 car cover with bag and lock (complete with crest)
porsche 968 bra complete with crest, with mirror covers and bag (not the colgan model)
uber rare porsche tech art progressive lowering springs
original red porsche font black floormats (not the hard backed replacements)
tech specs booklet
painted crests
lug locks
full maintenance history, complete with all receipts, in a binder (not technically an accessory, but....)

Of course the primary thing is getting a sound car. But all those original goodies make a used car purchase so much more attractive. Almost like buying it new!

Did the 968 come with a bag for stowing the sunroof?
My old 944 had one, but my 968 didn't come with one (2nd owner).
I always assumed it was missing. I never once used the one for my 944.

yeah - i got lucky - with the blue car, it had 22k on it, and was a big concourse winner - with the white car, it had 14k on it, and came with a few things (like 2 porsche crest 968 car covers) - after a few days at rs barn changing out everything liquid and rubber, and then a month here really going at it, it was also like a new car - when i gave it to the father in law, it came with all the goodies and was all fresh

it really does feel good to have all that stuff in the car - makes me nuts when guys sell of the trunk stuff - those cool accessories really make a difference too

Had to come with one, because the hatchback has built-in holders for the straps ( of the leather roof storage bag )

The 968 did not come with the sunroof bag, it came with a harness that straps into the same loops as the bag.
I have all the gloves (white for valet, plastic for tire changes, insulated arm protectors for checking fluids on hot engines...)
I have the cargo net the sunroof harness, compressor, full tool bag and more. The only thing I can find missing is the original bag for the flat tire.

I'm lucky in that I've got all the gloves, spare tire bag, the compressor (which I use all the time for various other tires, etc) and the cargo net still sealed up in the plastic bag it came in. I may have to bust that open though and start using it though, sounds like it is handy.

I'd love to see the ski rack mounted on the cab bio. I skied a lot in my youth and never had quite such a nice ride to the slopes. Slid a 70 Mustang down a couple of mountain grades, and I am sure that the 968 has better rear grip in snow than that pig had...

There is a facotry poster that shows the 968 with the ski rack, I actually have it framed and in my living room. Once I remember where I bought it from I will post a pic of it.

EDIT: Found it..
