Unique 968 models
#1

Well, the 968 models project is finally completed. Thank God it has been raining here so I had the time to invest in this effort. Photos show 1:24 and 1:43 models of the following:

- Porsche 968 Coupe

- Porsche 968 RS ADAC racing in Germany

- Porsche 968 RS Le Man racing version

- Porsche 968 Turbo S

- Porsche 968 CS

Models match the factory photos which are also on display. Now all I need are 1:18 versions of these models!

If you want to see these models up close and personal, stop by Jay's Takin it to the Streets event in Newtown this Saturday.

Egeghard,

It took me years to get to this point - hard parts were finding:

- the 3 Starter resin 1:43 models (968, 968TRS ADAC, 968TRS LEMANS) Found them on Ebay over an 18 month period

- using the engine from a Hasegawa 944 Turbo Racing 1:24 model

- the Turbo wheels in 1:24 size for the Turbo S model. Found them on Ebay also

- having enough 968 and 968 CS model parts to replace my screw-ups (do not get any glue on the windows!)

- inordinate amount of time and patience required

Here is a photo of the engine bays for both the Turbo S and the CS

Waiting patiently for my 968 Turbo RS Starter 1:43 model to be completed by a pro in Texas. Waiting is so hard - lol!

I finally received the Starter 1:43 resin model of the Porsche 968 Turbo RS Le Mans version. It has been almost a year since the builder started this. Of course, he moved from Texas to Colorado during this time so he does have a good excuse. As you can see from the photos, he duplicated all the original features of the 968 TRS Le Mans racing car.

Talk about a great Christmas present - oh wait a minute, I had to pay for this - lol!

Looks great! Now you just need to get Tamathumper to CNC you some model label plates or something of that sort to replace the taped-on paper!

Jeff, thanks. Blau, my goal was originality of the Starter 1:43 resin model. The builder did have to redo the decals since they are from 1993.

Cosimo, yes anyone can have one of these. First step is to locate one of the 3 rare 1:43 Starter models on Ebay - expect to drop $100 - 175 on the model, depending on whether it is the 968, Turbo RS ADAC or Turbo RS LeMans version. Next find an outstanding 1:43 model builder. Finally, expect to drop up to another $300 to have it completed. The Le Mans version is most expensive since the original Starter RS model had to be modified to reflect the Le Mans interior, compared to the ADAC version (factory photos show the difference).

I am attaching a photo of the interior and you can see all the work done there.

Anyone coming to Hershey next year will get to see all of 'em up close.

Don, this is so impressive! I would much rather rebuild a 968 transaxle than try my hand at model building, I don't have the fine motor skills. Can't wait to see them at Hershey!

wasn't me. not impressed with the quality of the bodywork. the internal details were cool, but i didn't like that the body lines are wrong. definitely not worth that much money to me, but then i don't like the real RS to begin with either, so i'm a bit odd there. i've passed on 2 of the models now.

Wasn't me either, although I thought about it since I would like to put my existing Starter 968 Coupe interior in a 968 Turbo RS shell and have a 968 Turbo S made out of it. Since these are so rare, I decided to let someone else have a shot at it. Perhaps Prescott bought it since he knew he would buy the real Turbo RS in Amelia today - lol!
