There is a white 968 CS on the front cover of the Feb issue of GTPORSCHE. The article is a comparison of the "original...Porsche road racer" vs the 2012 Cayman R. I have not read the entire article yet, but what I have read sounds good!

They mention that "What really dates the 968 is the lack of structural rigidity compared to modern cars... I doubt you'd ever cure the problem completely (other than by fitting a full roll-cage. Now there's an idea...)". Too bad the CS in NOT legal in the US (yet), because I would like to see a version done up with Design1 Racing components to deal with the "lack of structural rigidity" that the author of the srticle mentions.

Here's a great idea: two 968 CS; one set up by Flash and the other set up by Pete, and then tested against each other and against the Cayman R again!!!

The "issue" I just quoted does NOT hinder the 968 overall evaluation. The final review is very positive towards the 968...

Thx for the info, will try to find it tomorrow, though locating any bookstores / large selection magazine racks nowadays is about as rare as public telephone booths.

I'm not up on the legalities of copyrighted material. And I don't want to suggest anything illegal.



But, how does what I suggested differ from my past life experience where a buisness would purchase a copy or copies of a technical paper, book, etc. and placed it in their library for the whole org to have access as desired? Or, a non-profit org having a technical library available to its members.



Is it the legal status of our forum that makes it different?

It would be interesting to see such a comparison. The finite element tools we used in the '80s were so much more limited than todays easy access of higher order polynomial elements with auto mesh, and easy access to strain energy density to see which areas of the structure are doing the most work. All this and greater use of higher strength materials should make it a lot easier for today's designer to avoid stress issues, and achieve much better structural rigidity with minimal weight. Seems like the 968 was a very stiff design for its time. It would be great to see how close the 968 could come to todays structural performance standards with just add-ons.

to answer the copyright question, this website is technically a publication. as such, we cannot "publish" copyrighted material without the authorization of either the author or the publisher - i'd have to check with an attorney, but i imagine one of the main differences between here and a doctor's office, is the ability of the "reader" to carry off the copy. downloading is essentially just like photocopying, which is illegal.

No luck finding the Feb issue with the 968 ( they had several copies of what I presume may be a more recent copy ..no idea which month , because every copy had the store's sticker barcode placed in the same spot , over the month !! ) I,ll check the online option.

Never thought of Forums as a publication, but given that the whole copyright issue makes sense.

In theory yes, but in practice no one ( other than the NFL and their "superbigame"'s name protection efforts ) will pursue an infringement action against any individual or a forum unless the clear reason for posting a copy of an article, or a photo for that matter, is to derive a substantial gain at the publisher's expense , and then they also to prove that material losses / damages were incurred, not just the lost opportunity to sell five copies of a publication, lol.. Again, whilst true in theory, the chances of any follow through are negligible to arguably zero. Otherwise every photo publisher would go after Facebook where not only millions of these technical infringement violations ( various copyright materials posted ) take place every day, but talk about "deep pockets" opportunity to collect from FB ! JMHO

lol - are we forgetting the simpler issue of right and wrong? just because we may not get caught does not mean that we should do it. that is one of the mindsets that is responsible for the state of our society today. we are supposed to report such things to the authorities.



by the way, porsche is more than willing to sue somebody for copyright infringement, and has done it. they almost put booth designs out of his house in a lawsuit. excellence is pretty active about it too. who knows what others might do?
