Turbo RS for sale
#1

Please take a look at this. I came across this turbo RS for sale and I am 99% positive this car was for sale on 968.net for only 60k. I can't believe they want 150k.

PS: I really want this car.

I don't know about the 968.net post, but if that car is actually one of the fabled four it is worth the money.

I believe you are confusing this "Red" RS and the "White" Mobil RS that Jason Burkett of Paragon purchased. But both this Red RS and Jasons White RS have been discussed on 968.net.

The Red one has been marketed at different prices by different individuals. If I remember correctly it is in a garage somewhere in the south/

It is worth whatever someone will pay for it, but 150k seems pretty steep. Is the price history of the 4 RS cars documented?

I heard a few months ago that Jason's white RS was available for sale. Maybe Jason will see the thread and comment.

I don't' care how rare or incredible the car is...it is not worth 150k.

Just think of all the other cars you can buy for that much money.

But on the other hand if you are car collector and money is no object.

Not trying to hijack, but I wasn't familiar with this listing site, so I looked at the cabs. How about a 1997 968 with a 6 speed tiptronic for $48,900?

I don't agree at all (okay thats not true--I agree if you are buying it as a daily driver or track car). However, this would be a good investment for a number of businesses. It is an incredibly rare item that will draw in knowledgeable Porsche fans to a wide variety of enterprises (car shows, museums, dealerships, etc.). Then if you get tired of the people that come to see the car one can probably sell it after a few years for at least what was paid. And if you can prove it increased business it would be pretty easy to jack up the price to an even more ridiculous number. Just like how I went to see the Caymen last nite at the Porsche dealership down the street, if I knew a dealership had this car visiting I would go look at it.

Anyway thats my 2 cents.

Glau

ps. I haven't had a car payment in over ten years but the Caymen really is tempting me to change that, heh. I am hoping I can just forget about it for a few years to let the used market on them mature a bit, but it gave me an adrenaline rush just looking at it.

While I would never pay $150k for the car, you have to keep in mind that only FOUR were built. Look at production figures for EVERY other Porsche ever made. You are talking about one of the rarest Porsches built.

Interesting link Joe, thanks for pointing it out. After reading about all four cars I have changed my opinion a bit. #1 seems so highly modified from its original state it loses a little of its cashé for me. I would think the most valuable for the collector/investor and history of the Porsche would be #4, because it sounds like it is the most original of the four. At $65 grand seems like #4 would have been a steal making $150 grand for #1 look a bit like a pipe dream.

Well #1 is the only 968 to race LeMans and also competed at 12 hours of Sebring so it has the race history going for it. Also it was the prototype so it's pedigree may be a little stronger for a collector.

Not like I am paying $150K for it though. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

People pay $175k for 73' RS's every day. Mint 993 Turbo S's still demand low 100's, with some in the 80's and 90's. Mint 89 Flatnose G50 Turbo's still demand 150's. I am just listing the cars that I have seen sold in the last couple of months. Your not paying $150k to driving this car, your paying it to own one of, if not the most exclusive Porsches ever made. If you go the 911 boards, they will contest that there are some 911 variations where theres only one or two of them. The highest value car will the the most stock one, and they are taking advantage of this. I wouldn't be surprised if the car doesn't pull lower 100's.

Wes

And about the driving, theres no doubt your going to drive it. For $150k though, you can have cars that are faster, handle better, and are newer.
