Alpine White? Grand Prix White?
#1

Hi all,

I am looking at a 968, and the owner tells me it has original paint, in "Alpine White".

I thought 968's came in Grand Prix White...?

What's the difference between GPW and AW?

Thanks!

My 944S is Alpine White. I think 968s never came in this color. Alpine is a warmer white and the 968 is a cooler white.

Hi, unless it was a very rare solid color to sample car (paint code 98) the 968 you are looking at is Grand Prix White, the sales code is P5, the paint code is L908, offered in all 4 968 model years, GP white is the third most popular color on both 968 cabs (349 produced) and coupes. You can find the color code in a couple of places on the car. There is a small silver sticker in the engine compartment, next to the fuse box, that has it as well as the vehicle information sticker which is on page 1 of the maintenance manual or underneath the rear hatch carpet. Good luck. Jeff

there are definitely 2 different whites for the 968 - a member here has one of the other whites - he comes to our paso event most years

Again, you could color to sample order Alpine white but I'm not sure why anyone would. As for factory white paint offerings, just P5 Grand Prix white for the 968. Maybe the paso event car was one of those "dealer changed it" cars you talk about.

no idea - not everything shows up in the paperwork - pretty sure his car is a very early 92, and is original paint - we've had the hood up and been in and out of that car - alpine white is a 91 color, and could have been an early shoot

not the only one i've seen either - there are a number of cars that are not as listed in the production information - many many discrepancies

i've also seen 2 original paint arctic silver cars (that's the name for the "green" silver, right? as opposed to the "blue" polar silver) - looked closely at one way back when but chose not to buy it - i used a paint meter on both cars, as well as looking in the tell-tale places, as i always do when considering a car, so i know the color was original

Well, from a paperwork/factory sales data P5/L908 is the only white for a 968. You'll have to post a picture of one of these outliers someday.

pretty sure there are already pics of the white car right here on the site

i will have to start taking pictures though - i suck at that across the board - i've been around the world twice and only on my last trip to italy did i take my first shot, and even then it was only at the insistence of the wife

Well, this guy is also a 944 fanatic, so maybe he's confused?

Any pics to compare Alpine white versus GP white?
