ALIGNMENT SPECS FOR YOUR CAR

Thanks for this thread - just read through it. Good stuff for a newb with this chassis.

I'm just wrapping up a long list of repairs in my garage that includes new caster blocks, bushings, koni conversion in front, new engine mounts. Also eager to install the D1R upper and lower braces.

I need an alignment after all this, but should I install the D1R braces after or before the alignment?

Hoping the recommended alignment shop here in Madison works out. Had intended to take it to a local race shop (Kelly Moss) and found that they don't do the alignments for street cars themselves. I think they 'outsource' to the local Porsche dealership, but the guy was cagey about it and wouldn't say who they use. I still have to get some better answers from them before I commit, and at least I want to be able to talk to the tech who will be doing the job.

Ive read the very helpful threads on alignments here, and the cautionary tales about lazy alignment jobs, so I'm a little uptight about it. This is my first p-car and first chance to actually significantly improve the handling performance.

Thanks for any supportive feedback!

braces can go on either before or after. there is no preload to them, so they have no effect on alignment.

What would be the height of the wheel wells of a stock 968 measured from the center of the arc to the ground? I would like to know how much, if any my 968 has been lowered. then I would measure all 4 wheels to see if they are all at the same height. Are the fronts the same measurement as the rears on a stock 968?

assuming your springs have not sagged, and they are stock springs, it's about 26.5".  M030 cars are 3/4" lower.

Is it possible to easily lower the ride height to that of the Club Sport specs?  I'm installing the D1R lower and upper braces and "modest improvement" alignment settings.  If I can lower the car the 20 mm at the same time this seems to be a good set-up. Don't want to change to coil-overs or M030 set up as my wife doesn't want that firm a ride.  And I like to have her in the car.

no.  the front of the standard cars is not adjustable at all.

you can install lowering springs (if you can find them), or you can change to coilovers, and install any spring you like, including ones that appease the wife.

search for coilovers starts, I guess.  need to get the handling down before new yet-to-be-ordered D1R superchargers is added.  The slippery slope has begun.  Friend just got a Cayman GTS and is it a sweet driving car, but for $80k more than my 968 so I guess I can invest a few bucks.

i highly recommend the dual adjustable koi hydraulics.  much nicer than the yellow sports.  smooth ride, but firm up nicely in the corners.

lol - or you could buy a car already done.................
