Tiptronic
#21

968z, Thanks for the comment about using a chip in the Tip. We have had discussions about it and no one had an idea what it would act like. What chip did you have?

I have an Autowerks Racing chip. I have since sold the '95 Tiptronic, but the chip is in my '94. I don't know if they are still around. I bought mine almost 5 years ago.

Anyone know the difference in MPG for the tip vs 6spd?

Thanks.

Not much difference, but if you have a gentle foot on the gas pedal you will get a few more miles per gallon with the standard shift. When I had my Tiptronic 968 it gave me about three miles less per gallon than my six speed 968 does. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

A couple of comments from me. One thing I was very surprised to find in running the cab registry is that most of the 968 cabs are 6 speeds. About 70%. I thought the ratio would be closer to 50/50 so you'll have a challenge finding a nice tip. That said, and most would agree, they sell for less money then the 6 speeds. Finally, period 968 road tests found that tip much slower then the 6 speed, if that matters. I've got sticks in everything I own, even the SUV had one. I also have a great commute with no traffic.

Thanks for the reply. I had read that they were slower off the line, but I would imagine that otherwise they should be fairly close. Costing less is not necessarily a bad thing... for someone thinking about buying! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/laugh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
