DO have pinion bearings but it is the manual trans that have the problem with those.
We need more info about the sound. When does the sound start and what makes it change?
( I think I posted this in a different tread)
"Decel/accel - coasting in natural - going around curves - any gear/all gears"
I would think a wheel or torque tube bearing would be more likely, tips are rather bullet proof.
Thanks for the response guys.........It sounds like an alternator bearing whine and now that you mention it i had a 928 automatic that i had to replace the TT and i seem to remember a simaler noise .
I just took it up on the highway and whine is proportionate with engine speed parked ,in neitral, coasting, etc. does not get rid of it. The sound actualy sounds like its coming from both the tranny and engine compartment , but modtly from the tranny area. I will put it up on a lift tomorrow and use the screwdriver to ear trick to try to diagnose.
Any suggestions??????............ <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/blink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
