Tip: Replacing your Motronic ECU

Today, when I put a performance chip in my 968, I did it quicker than the directions. I just loosened the bundled connection cable to the Motronic, then used my finger to hold the nut on the back of the Motronic unit (part no. 0-261-203-070) while I unscrewed it. There were two screws hold the unit in (the chip to be replaced is inside this unit).



Getting the screws out and retaining the nuts was pretty easy...but holding the nuts in place in that tight spot so you can start the bolts back in is the tricky part. What I did was take an SAE wrench that was just slightly larger than the nut and wedged the nut into the wrench with a piece of grocery bag paper so it was snug and wouldn't fall out (use a short wrench). Then I carefully worked the Motronic back into place, lined up the holes, and placed the wrench with the secured nut behind the hole where I could see it. Then I started the nut.



For me, it went VERY quick. However, had I dropped the nut or the wrench, I planned to just take the whole bracket out like the directions describe...but luckily I didn't have to go there.



I always unhook my battery anytime I dink with anything elecronic....expecially the brains.
