RSBarn Short Shifter hard to put in reverse

I believe i follow all the instructions, although im finding hard to get the car into reverse.
Anything im missing here? I got the shifter it self correcly centered and at 85degrees tilted.
Ps: i installed the shifter with all the washers.

On an earlier thread I reported the same problem.

No problems after I installed mine. I would suggest you remove it, and re-install without the washers. As noted in the instructions, you may experience some interference with more washers.

Reinstall without the washers and see what happens.

I just dont get why the washers would interfer with reverse... maybe something in the back is loose?
Hey Baz do u have the aluminium block (shifting block) installed @ the gearbox? maybe thats the reason?

Dunno....

At the very least, if you reinstall without washers and still have a problem, it is most likely something other than the SS kit. Resintallation will also give you a chance to verify you installed properly (not saying you did or didn't).

No matter what, hope you solve it and get back to enjoying the ride. It's never any fun when something doesn't work like you expect.

it's hard to quantify the difficulty level, but there should be no undue resistance - there is a bit of an increase in reverse, but that is actually a good thing (if you ever had a british sports car, you know banging reverse while moving forward just plain sucks) - still, it isn't much of an increase

the washers increase the distance change and can easily cause the long rod that runs to the rear of the car to hit the tunnel

remove the washers

check the left right angle - it should be straight up

check the fore/aft angle - 85 degrees (5 degrees tipped back) is almost straight up, and many people tend to put in too much angle

if that fails to resolve the problem, let me know

No shifting block.

Have reinstalled with new components but resistance remains along with a lever vibration under acceleration.

Reinstalled OEM lever no problem???

I have passed it on to the local Porsche specialist to examine when the vehicle is serviced next week. I`ll let you khnow if anything is found.

Thanks for the offer but basically I like what it does and just wish to remove the niggles.

I`m sure these will be overcome so again thanks for the offer, but don`t worry about. Part of the fun of owning cars like the 968 is chasing the gremlins.

i kinda sort out the reverse problem, On the rear of the pivot pin, where the welding is, it was hitting the metal frame that holds the rubber surround of the shifter, so i grind down the rear of the pin about 5 mm, and voila problem solved.
Now i have reverse gear with no problems.
Now it seem to develop another problem, the shifter is rattling at around 3000 rpm, on 1,3,5 gears.
I was wondering if it had anything to do with teh diameter of the pivot pin? i read in another topic that the pin is smaller in diam.
Any ideas?

more than likely you just don't have the rubber grommets seated fully - there is only a few thousandths of an inch difference in the pin, and the bushings are delrin or something, so it should be dampened - however, if the grommets aren't in just the right spot, and the clip doesn't hold the shift knob in place, it can buzz

this is especially true if you use the washers and it causes contact between the long shift rod and the tunnel - this would also be indicated by an audible "bong" sort of sound as you shift - there should be no noise
