I grew up 10 minutes from this place. Heard stories about famous racers from the 60's that visited here. In my time it was only a circle track (boring). The road course closed in 1978. I've moved away but I came home to check this place out. Pretty cool. Had a great time. Here's a photo...

Notice a red coupe is leading a BMW and a Vette? Nice!

Trust me. I got passed by them pretty quick.

DS, I think you would be surprised at how fast the E46 M3 is... The E36 M3 is more on pace with the 968, and that car looks pretty well setup just by viewing the front end.

Then I got passed by the actual E36 M3 GTR PPG/Yokohama car. I've had a poster of it in my garage now for years. Guy was just out exercising it. That was pretty cool.

And if you don't think an E46 M3 is a fast car go test drive one. It will embarrass a 968.

I have roughly the same mods that you mention. Stripped interior, Airbox, cat back and RS Barn chip. My car runs very strong. I even had $112 of 98 octane in the tank that day. E46's consistently walked away from me anywhere there was a straight.

I guess it depends on what year it is ? I know that with just the chip , air box mod, catback and around 75 lbs off stock weight, in my six speed 968, I was able to consistently edge ahead of E 46 M3s, on freeway runs ( not 0-60 ) . The E 36 M3s weren't even a sweat, lol. So I wonder if the E 46 had a few generations where they continued to increase the power from one year to the next ..

DS,
I'm surprised you were able to stay that close. The E46 is a faster car than the 968. I love dueling with the E36 on the track, but the extra horsepower of the E46 pretty much makes it untouchable with an equal driver.
I have an RS Barn stage II chip, Stahl header, air box mod, M030 bars, M030 coilovers, and both upper and lower chassis braces. Oh yeah, I have roll bar stiffening the chassis as well.
Those PTG cars were the bomb. The guy who owned the shop that did the inspection on my 944 N/A racecar had one. Very COOL.
