This is about as bling as it gets!!
#1

I know this could go under "968 Showroom" but this is definitely bling.

I've mentioned this a couple of times and now here it is: my 1994 (1993 rebadged), Grand Prix White/Marine Blue with Lambo doors! I picked it up in Vallejo, CA a couple months ago. I had a two week “due diligence” period wherein I researched how to repair the absolute hack job that was done to the doors. The PO had a couple of showings before me but they bolted once they inspected those doors. They were a complete mess, even the welds looked like they were done in junior high welding class. The poor PO bought it sight-unseen, so never even registered it in six years of ownership because it was nearly impossible to get in and out of. The driver door would attempt to chop you like a guillotine. Other than that, the car is in beautiful shape. I drove it down the block but gritted my teeth because the timing belt was at least 8 years old with no records to determine actual age. I guessed the fuel was several years old as well. Started right up and shifted beautifully.

Within the two weeks of contemplation, I called several body shops and was quoted as much as $6,000 to bring it back into shape! I finally came across a shop in Corona, CA (400 miles South) that specializes in Lambo doors. I talked to them a couple times and we came to a price that was much more reasonable than the quotes to bring it back to factory. I figured since it was already Lambo doors, might as well stick with it! I would never chop up a car for the hell of it but might as well see what they can do. The PO was at his wits end with this car (or more accurately, his wife), so we came up with a price that left plenty of room to ship the car to my mechanic first, then to the “door shop”.

The Lambo doors were just finished yesterday, and the shop is very happy with the results. They put a lot of time and effort into this because they had no pattern to go off of. This car did not even have door jams! These are photos that they took because I can not make it down there until next week. I’ll post a few more photos when I pick it up, and of course I can’t wait to see it in person! My contact at the shop said the owner put some time in himself to make sure it came out looking like factory. He also said that everybody who comes to their shop is impressed. They even have a guy who already wants the same thing.

Very cool. Guaranteed to stump even jaded L.A. restaurants valets who will definitely park it in the "show" spot up front, with the doors left open :-) :-).

Is Flash going to do a Lambo package?

Looks pretty cool. Is it easy to get in and out of?

That Lambo door place is practically right across the street from where I work. Is the car still there so I can check it out?

Well, they have the advantage of making it easier to get out of a tight parking spot without having to worry about banging the door into the next car, or garage door wall.

ya know, after Ryker mentioned the guillotine effect it's hard not to think of a hinge failure and you end up without a foot or a hand or if you happen to be working on the handbrake or seatbelt...it may result in a pretty good impersonation of Marie Antoinette

It really does not look that bad - I thought it would be horrible - now add some carbon fiber kick plates and Flash will be all over it - lol

You sure like to "pull his chain"!

I think the Lambo doors look good. Need to see in person some day...

Lol - Well I figured I have to - since no one else is. It's all in fun.

Seriously though, I would like to see a side shot. I don't think they look that bad. SL's had gullwings for years and everyone goess gaga over them now and I don't see the big deal - actually the Lambo door makes more sense as you don't have to climb over a foot wide door sill.

I don't mind them if they are tastefully presented. The only picture if have seem before is that bright purple one in LA that seems to make the rounds.

Flash, you're right, I changed my mind! Decided I want to play with it a bit. It does look a lot better than I thought. I'm looking forward to it.

ds968, they do a lot of these doors, so the guillotine affect has been managed.

bombfactory, please go check it out! I would love to hear your take on it, and take photos! I've been working with a guy named Gavin.

DaveN, ok, yeah maybe mine is not so bling after all!

If you put some reasonable painted wheels on that purple 968, it wouldn't look half bad. It's very clean looking and well maintained, just with bad jewelry.

i've seen that car in person. it would definitely be at home in east oakland.

as for the rest, the wheels are so big they rub. the headlights stick up. it's bloody purple everywhere. there is no trunk (full of stereo). that being said, the bodywork they did around the headlight conversion, and the hinges, is really good.
