thinking about body redesign
#21

I like the way the lights in EEZATOY's Photoshopped headlights follow the contours of the fenders. Very cool, clean, and very modern looking, while maintaining the car's character. Aren't they from a Boxster or a Cayman?

Subtle front end mods - easy on the photo shop - just playing....[Image: attachment.php?thumbnail=8637]

That looks awesome. I like that better then the earlier photoshop pic.

The character of the 968 is it's lines. Yes it is essentially a 30-year old design. Until I recently saw the R-8 convertible I consistently thought the 968 was the best looking convertible ever designed. The coupe is also growing on me. This is an old-school car with old-school character. Talk to Kim, or drive a 987. Fast - yes. Modern - check. Soul-less - you be the judge. Given the option to put a fixed lamp in place I would only do it if it looked exactly like what came from the factory - I love the front end of this car.

Lights I took from a cayman (need to be leveled - it was the close's I could find for the angel and size of the 968 picture). Originally I just had open bottom grill but thought it was a little plain with the light color - probably not as noticable on darker colors. Other than making the lights fit the rest would be relativily minimal body work....

I also played with this one but its starting to get pretty busy and I think the bottom need some work - a little wider or something

Those lights really are sharp. But I wonder if there's a snowball's chance in H-E-Toothpick-Toothpick that they could fit without major fender renovation...

How about some new wheels, always liked the mid-60's Corvette knockoffs, in this case the 5-bolt imitations from the 1967 Corvette.

As to the headlights - my recollection is there is no direct drop in fixed headlight solution - even the 993's - so if your in for a penny in for a pound....pick your poison.

i knew that going in - that was not a problem, IF i am going to change them, since the fender corners were going to change anyway

i rather like those wheels on that color car - pretty cool

Ok played some more - the lower red grill is a better depiction of my vision of the grill mod....I'm thinking if one could make a mold of the new corners (simular to the one used to create turbo s upper grill) cut out the center rib and insert the corners. Just thinking....

Sam,

I like the lower grille design. Gives the car a more updated look with the portions on each side, reminds me of the air intake zones on both sides for both the Cayenne and the new 911s.

I have never had a better set of headlights on any car. The performance, focus and colour of the 968 lights are phenominal but I would sure entertain a change if the same quality could be placed in an integrated package mocked up by Eezatoy.

PS I must point out that changes like this must be considered very carefully. I drive a 968 for a reason, I love it. One must be carefull NOT to end up with a FrankenPorsche just for change sake.

Not to worry. Given the amount of body modification needed for any of these mods, particularly changes to the headlights, the chances of any of these interpretations ever seeing the light of day, except in possibly a one-off such as Flash is considering, are pretty much nil. I do like these concepts, though.

I suggest making the sides on the lower grill one bar instead of two.....interesting stuff, keep it up.

thanks

Lim – tried the one bar and didn’t like it – I think it looks better with either the two or no bars – but that’s just me….

As for the grill mod I don’t think it would be that bad assuming there were molds for the corners – if you were going to be doing a respray of the front cover you could cut out the center bar and slots for the corner molds – blend them in and paint…the same as if you wanted the Turbo S upper – it just a larger fiberglass(?) oval that you cut a larger hole for and glue into place – just need a good body shop.

A side note it shows up on lighter colored cars (the reason I used the horizon blue) not so much on darker cars like my black coupe – unless you have a contrasting grill color…

Headlights are another story. They would definitely be a one off mod – They would require major body work and I have not measured/checked the angles or had mine parked next to 2005-2008 cayman/boxster to see if it’s even feasible…

Personally I have never been a fan of pop-up lights (think they distract from the lines of the car when their up) – especially during daytime/dusk conditions.

Don’t get me wrong – I love my car just playing around with some ideas….

Hmmm... That is very nice. And from the images, it doesn't look like they stick up above the fenders as other 993 headlight graftings have. I suspect this must have entailed some very pricey, custom fender modification work. I wonder what's up with the two-tone paint scheme, though. That's definitely not working for me. Although the naca ducts make up for it to some extent <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Anybody know whose car this is, who did the work, etc.?

those look like the arktech fenders that push the headlights down and forward, allowing them to sit down in the fender nicely
