and if this were a sports car, i would agree whole heartedly. however, being a GT, i tend to lean more toward the comfort than the pure sport features.
i don't think anybody would put a rolls in a GT class. that's a luxury sedan. a GT is a sporty car that retains much of it's more conservative sedan or coupe roots (i.e. generous luggage area, creature comforts, etc) in its design. it is designed to provide driver input and feedback, but also be comfortable for touring (hence the term "grand touring"). this applies to both the hatchback version as well as the convertible.
a sports car is far more spartan, has no intrinsic value beyond pure sport, and would not have things like power windows, power seats, air conditioning, yada yada. it would also only be a 2 seat car (all cabs are really 4 seaters that were converted).
i've had sports cars. love them. very different use though. this car is great for longer trips, primarily due to its comfort features. anything i can do to enhance and improve upon that only goes to further the initial design intention. it isn't well suited to become a sports car for many of the same reasons.
i tried turning this car into a sports car. i yanked out 240#, firmed things up, and got rid of all the play in bushings (having replaced them all with monoballs). the result was that i lost all that was great about the car. i really screwed up what the engineers did an excellent job of establishing. i have now returned the car to the use for which it was designed, and altered my modifications to supplement that, rather than try to make it something it is not.
as for driving it harder or not, i drive it in all sorts of modes. sometimes i am just cruising. sometimes i am on a long trip. sometimes i am romping the piss out of it. the car can now do all of that. in addition, due largely to the sound deadening, i can enjoy the car in all modes, and choose when i want to be assaulted sonically and when not to be. it truly is the best of all worlds. finally.
