These roads look like fun
#1

Stelvio pass in Italy. Trollstigen in Norway. Anyone here tested them in the 968 ?

Not in a car, but I believe I did the Stelvio with the motorcycle. I say 'believe' because my memory refuses to remember the names of places where I've been and it's a bit like a dime a dozen kind of thing over there.

It's heaven I tell you, heaven! :-)

Actually, I imagine on a motorcycle that would be even more fun . And probably the ONLY advantage of a convertible vs a coupe could be argued on a beautiful day, on either of the two roads.

in a convertible, every day is a beautiful day for a drive.

The thing is, the only object between you and imminent death over there is usually one lousy block of stone every couple of meters. One time a nut driving a car came round a blind corner, half the car on my lane, just when I entered the corner at quite a speed. NOT too pleasant I can tell you that.

Many locals over there drive like they stole something, and that's fine by me because they are used to the conditions. It's the wannabe tourist McRae's that scare me.

that one still baffles me. when you steal a car, you drive it very slowly and cautiously, trying not to draw attention to yourself. you don't drive fast.

now, "drive it like you rented it" i understand

So you mean while cruising along, suddenly throw it in P or R just to see what it does ? :-) :-) .

well, we all know that rental cars are beefed up, so we can thrash on them. they also all have the "IOV" feature (instant off-road vehicle)

There is a Top Gear episode on this road. the drove a Porsche GT3RS, a race prepared Aston Martin, and a Ferrari. Looks like it would be a great drive.

You only need to make sure you got enough hp's to spare due to the altitude... Hmm... Maybe some NOS would fix that problem. Flash? Lol.

i have driven them both , but on a motorcycle , lot of fun .

Driving the 968 there would be nice , but on the bike is way more fun .

I did drive the Trollstiggen with a car as well , not the 968 but my 55chevy Nomad , that was fun as well with the drum brakes going down hill .

I know the guys from Top Gear agreed that THE best driver's road anywhere is in Romania - called Transfagarasan Highway.. Having grown up in Romania I find that rather difficult to believe ; not from the standpoint of the scenery, or the fun factor of an ideal combination of turns , straightaways , tunnels, yada yada yada, but I just can't imagine the quality / condition of the paving would be something that allows for that fun factor to be enjoyed at its fullest. Then again it's been 41 years since I was last there, maybe things have changed ...

Hmm, just pulled up some info on that , seems they have a bunch of sports car rallies throughout the year and the typical individual clubs ( Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghni, Aston Martin ) events / runs as well.

I like the nighttime photo:

Here's another photo which only leads me to believe the Transfagarasan , the Trollstiegen and the Stelvio highways are tne exact same road, ( probably somewhere in Albania ) and it's some prank photographer taking shots of it from different spots and angles , claiming they're separate roads.
