#21

Had the same problem and it was a drain tube.

So easy DIY, or does it involve more than just lifting the carpet and repositioning the tube where it belongs ?

Quote:Just discovered the REAR  "passenger " side  foot-well is completely soaked  !   The plastic segments / pillar, and carpet running down from the roof are all bone dry, all the way from the top to the bottom, so the soaked area is limited to only the base floor space .  Its been raining a lot here, and I do a lot of freeway driving, is there anything under the car , in that particular area which might cause water to be kicked up, permeate through and soak that small segment of floor space or is it likely a roof drain tube got plugged right at its bottom end somehow and the water has no place to go but underneath the carpet ?  Assuming that's the proximity of where where the drain tubes lead to...

How old is your rear hatch seal?  This is a coupe?

Yes it's a coupe, rear hatch seal appears in decent condition, there are no wet spots in the trunk carpet area , the rear cubby pockets or the center well, but why do you ask ; is there a " connection " between the rear hatch and that footwell ? Sounds almost certain it's the drain tube considering RAP had the same problem.

Thanks for the tip Philippe, but I already knew the first step is to remove the engine, this is a 968 after all, that step is on the firstt page of the service manual as obligatory with any repairs, I just did that the other day before I replaced the windshield wiper fuse .

I had replaced my rear hatch seal, and was getting water in the side saddle bag storage bins.  The drain hoses looked fine for the sun roof, so did the hatch pin.  Anyways I checked and checked and after about a month or so, it stopped.  I assume my hatch seal had to just settle in?

Just a thought as that is a huge seal and water getting in anywhere around it can wind up in weird places.  So no connection, just anecdotal.  Most cars I have had rear foot well is a rear sunroof drain leaking in the headliner, or blocked and over flowing back in the car.

The roof drain tubes were all clear and properly positioned.  However, the gas tank overflow ( cap area ) drainage tube was  completely blocked . Also, the top was not that well seated, so there is a possibility the water which got in around the cap cover seeped through the sides of the tube into the fender area and made its way down to the rear foot well.   All clean now and sealed properly, so we'll see what happens with the next round of rain storms .
