The Porsche that never was
#1

The Porsche Panamericana 1989 concept car that never happened. So futuristic, but yet elegant design. is still mind buckling today. With a zipper to seal the top in place. with only 2 of them built, one for Ferry Porsche's 80th Birthday and the other for the Motor Show in Frankfurt. It was launched, however, at a bad time for Porsche. If you look closely you will notice the 911 rear style and the 968 front. The wind and side screen is out of this world design wise and the soft top zipped right on.

Glad they abandoned the idea .. there would not have been an uglier Porsche made .. IMHO, of course.

As you know" beauty is in the eye of the beholder"....this would still be a "head turner" and a great performer.

PS: Wonder where this picture was taken. The sign says MPH. Could not be in Europe.

Hmmm.... the wheel wells certainly could use a little help! If that was corrected, I think it's pretty cool looking... and a cab!

True...and to this beholder ( me ) it looks like an off-road / ATV vehicle with a Porsche badge.

When I saw Kaj's post I thought what a great looking car, love the wrap around glass.  From that top view I'm not sure if it looks like a 968 at the front or maybe the Boxster; the filler cap is in the front wing.

Then I saw Dan's post .... IMHO not a good look from that angle.  It has shades of a golf buggy (mind you, you'd be back at hole 19 pretty quickly), or maybe inspired by a Frog-eyed Sprite from the 1960s.  Did these make it State-side???

Yes, I admit. The wheel wells could have been finished off better. With that it would have been a great car.

How is this even a remote comparison ?!! The 968 looks better than ANY Porsche ever made, or any even designed as a prototype , but with one single exception : the 918 spyder. ( which is just slightly more expensive than the 968 ,.)

This would have been the 1996 968 Roadster. More beautiful than any 911.

Yes, that would-have-been roadster was indeed an elegant, beautiful design ( IMO ) Ive only seen photos of it in the two blue colors .. wonder how many of them they made ? Usually theres only one prototype, isnt there ?

Man the bias here is overwhelming. Do we all still call our wives or girlfriends the most beautiful woman we know?

Goes without saying, but what has Jay's "wife" got in her other hand?
