The End
#1

Sadly enough I think I will find myself contemplating picking up a coupe. This past weekend I hit the wall at Thunderbolt just coming into the S'S. I don't have the final read on the car but it seems that I might have bent the frame. Certainly I am praying that this is not the case but better to be prepared. I don't have a read from the adjuster yet so that is another issue. Parts might be worth more than the car.

So If anyone sees a decent coupe with LSD that can be converted into a track car please let me know. You may contact me at clrbrook@epix.net

By the grace of God I walked away unscathed.

Awful news about the car , great news about you ( the latter is the ONLY thing that matters ! ) Fingers crossed the frame survived and the car can be restored to its former self, but if not , I'm sure a suitable coupe will be available somewhere ..

Thank goodness you're okay.  Cars can be replaced...  Was this at the Delaware event

Been there done that.

Yes it was. Crummy weekend. I didn't run Friday because there was a mist that made the track wet. I run Hoosiers so it wasn't worth the chance. Saturday I did the first run somewhat slower because a couple of spots were wet and slippery. Actually had a good run. Second run was decreased by half because of a previous antifreeze drop. Another good run. Third run I didn't do because it had rained two hours before at lunch and was wet. Fourth run looked ok from the tower but caught something setting up for a straight line through the s's and in less than a nano second I was going sideways on wet grass in one of the few places on this track with not much room. People spun out all weekend with no damage.

I'm told that if you track frequently this eventually happens. I got five years before whoosh boom crash. I'm a lucky dog . Just sucks cuz the car was cherry and very well set up.

I'm starting an appeal for contributions to help me get back on the track. Be generous because it's the right thing to do!

been there done that

2 kinds of drivers:  those who have crashed, and those who will crash

tracking a car requires that you write off the car the minute you pull it down off the trailer.  anything beyond that is gravy.  i always caution new guys that if they need to keep the car, keep it off the track.  it's even worse if you race.  you get to count on a new engine every year.

Yes I replaced the engine and tranny. It's chilling to think about the amount of money I sunk into the car. Many might say crazy but it was a sweet set up and ran well.

Sorry about the car, lots of work invested, hopefully you got enough enjoyment out of it before the end. But at least you can start over since the car protected you.

Hello my Friend, sorry to hear your mishap. I am so clad that you are fine. Looks like the DEs are more accident full than the real racing, at least in my case, as I never had an accident during my racing years on ice circuits or with Formula cars in so many European circuits, like the old and long Nurburgring.

I would like to help you with my 'not so favorable model for some people', my MO30 ( which is working very well on local circuits giving hurry up to 911s), however it is now here in Australia and I am not looking to take it back to USA. My challenge is to get my convertible to Europe one day, hopefully for next European summer, as it looks like there are nobody amongst USA Forum members interested in to have it.

Maybe there is there some of our Forum friends who can assist me to get the car in to Europe and then I can use it some weeks there and then sell it there.

Actually I would like to get in contact with our Belgium friend(s), so please email to me: m.wekara@optigolf.com.au

Bob, take care and look after your self, talk to you soon again, your Aussie friend Mark

I got a tremendous amount of enjoyment out of this car. It got better as my abilities got better. I had a very good driver in it who drove it and I was amazed at how fast it was. Jut not as much with me driving it. So I knew I had room to improve. Bob as a man of the world I will trust you on your knowledge of the costs of pregnant hookers!

Rap, good to hear you're ok. It sucks to break stuff on circuit. I had it happen too when I parked the Suzuki in the gravel two years ago. You and the car (hopefully) will recover.

Mark: I sent you an e-mail.

Thanks Bulti. It occured to me yesterday that not only how lucky i was and am but how much easier it is having the white car to drive. Can you imagine being 968less? lol

Jay, I do know just how lucky I was. The car could have easily flipped over as I was going sideways. Thank God I didn't turn the wheel and the car straightened out so I didn't hit the tire wall sideways on the drivers side. Can you say full roll cage? I was going to do that last winter but getting a new hip got in the way. Not a great excuse but the one I used.

Those fancy titanium hips can indure quite a bit! And lightweight too!

at this point i might be thinking about stuffing the drivetrain into a 944.  it would be a whole lot cheaper, a whole lot lighter, and there is a ton of stuff available for that car.

Out of curiosity did you have insurance that covered you on the track? If you did that was very lucky also. And who was the insurance with, if it
was covered as I never heard of that kind of insurance, I am sure many others do not know that kind of insurance exists.
