Hi Jan, I can't seem to reply directly to your posting re. this slightly strange forum, but I have the harness I think the factory intended to 'hold' your "Targa Panel" - what I refer to as your 'moon roof' panel.
I would be glad to post a picture of my harness, but I still don't have permission to post pictures. (read I need a 'Get Out of Jail Free' card).
The black strap harness is really primitive and the metal buckles are Byzantine, Germanic and balky in complexity. But I guess Porsche intended it for the purpose of allowing the moon roof panel to be 'stored' securely for spirited driving. If you give me an email, I will attach the jpegs, etc. as per the modern world web practice.
I live near the California coast, south of San Francisco, in the hills above Palo Alto (read morning fog reaching fingers over the one hill between me and the Pacific Ocean, terrific Pino and the Stanford campus, with slightly inferior weather way down hill, below HW 280, closer to the SF bay).
Back in 1991 when I had some bonus money, I was looking at used 944s. (read- I'd had 356s and wanted something much higher speed and with out the light front end typical of the 1980 era 911s), I answered an add from a couple who had an '91 944 S2 coupe, lived in Santa Cruz Ca. ' on the bitch' as the surfers used to say, and worked over in the bay area. They were both letter carriers for the US Post Office (read 'Hard Work') and had to drive treacherous highway #17 (read friggin perfect Porsche windy mountain road through the Red Wood Forest up and over a treacherous mountain pass- read Wooo- great every morning at 5 AM!!) through the Santa Cruz mountains every day, (many dead on that road in those years) almost 50 mile each way from their home in Santa Cruz (read Paradise) to their jobs in San Jose Calif. (read - great but kind of the Northern California version of the San Fernando Valley- LA - yuck!)
Well, anyway, for some reason, they had advertised their 944S2 for sale and I met them one day on the Bay Area side of the hills, in Campbell of Seratoga, or the like- to test drive their car. They explained that they almost always took out the moon roof and lashed it down (with bespoke harness) before they drove over HW#17 every day (without any trucks or Corvettes in the way - 'the' fabulous grand slalom course with tight, high speed radii turns and lots of big trucks, much better for a 944-968 than any 911 of the era- road).
So in the parking lot of some very big shopping center, they met me for the demo drive and took out their 'moon roof' and lashed it with the 'harness' into the boot. I hadn't driven a stick shift since a '62 Austin Morris 1400cc 4 speed, but I stilled my beating heart and drove the 944 (with both of the post people in it) with the top out - of course. It was great!! Later, I called them and had the cash in my hand. Then they told me they just couldn't stand to part with their 'targa' mode 944 after all. So a couple of months later, I went down to the Palo Alto (read Stanford University & MONEY) Porsche dealer, Carleson on Embarcadero Ave. and gave them the cash for my 968 6 speed, 1992 (read slightly Purple) Midnight Blue Metallic coupe.
I also love to take my 968 coupe top out. I have another story when I put an after market 'glass' moon roof in place of the factory moon roof. But that, and the tragedy that befell my poor GTI MkV VW is a story for the next time.
