1992 Porsche 968 Factory Service Information Manual
#1

I just got my hands on a 1992 Porsche 968 service information manual, it was the technical introduction to the then new 968. It is about 180 pages and gives complete information on the technical features of the car, what things are, how they work, why it was done the way it was, etc.,with a fair amount of information on how to service it. It is loaded with pictures, illustrations, diagrams and specs.

I feel that this may have been a strictly "internal" manual but that it may be helpful to our forums here ......and as such, I plan to begin scanning and uploading sections of the manual upon request. As I get requests and scan pages, I will continue to post them here so that eventually this thread can be a resource with the entire manual hosted online.

Here's the front and back cover, the intro page as well as a table of contents to get us started. If you could make requests for scanned sections based on the table of contents, that would be perfect. I can't promise how fast I will get to requests, but if you can indicate an emergency to me by email: Soumik_Pal@discovery.com I'll do my best...

Cheers,

hey no prob at all...sorry ive been slow on this, i've actually been a bit more slammed at work the past 2 weeks than i thought i would be. i may have to stick to requests for now, and start upload bits on the weekends as i get a chance....so keep any requests rolling in and i'll try to get to them ASAP- there's a lot of good info in this manual and I hope it can help some other people out as well!

Soumik_Pal@discovery.com <-- email requests here.

Interesting, I picked up this exact manual at the Hershey swap a few weeks ago. It had notations in it from the technician who received it during some type of training. The strange thing is that my manual is has a straight binder, not the wire one yours has. Cool stuff.

Hello Folks,

Does anyone know if this manual was eventually scanned and made available. I scanned around the forums to see if it was maybe here under a different topic, but didn't find it. Thanks!

I have the complete 968 service manual on CD. Been meaning to bring it to Office Depot to be converted to a hard copy manual. Is that what you're looking for?

I would love to see that intro manual. I have service manual on CD but!!!

I found an article by Herbert Amphire the engineer who oversaw much of the technical development. I'm sure much of this information is in the that training manual.

Stew (I think),

We have the Workshop Manual available already and I have that one: http://www.968forums.com/index.php?showtopic=366

But the originator of this thread indicated some different document / manual. Seemed to be a bit more introductory and training oriented.

Unfortunately I am not sure which one your post refers to, but I am sensing it i the Workshop manual. However if it is the "Factory Service Information Manual", which is this thread from a year ago, then I guess then subject to all the copyright stuff I think that one would still be of interest to everyone.

So, just to try to add a little clarity to the subject. The first post in this thread included a scan of the document cover page. It shows part number: WKD 497 421. A quick web search revealed almost nothing on that part number, except some old ad on 968.net, and..

Also this list of manuals from: http://www.derporsche.net/links/9441.htm

968, Intro Book '92 WKD 497 421 17.10 Serv Info,

968, Intro Book '93 WKD 498 021 8.55 Serv Info,

968, Intro Book '94 WKD 498 821 8.55 Serv Info, Paint (Gen'l) Repair Info WKD 482 620 74.70 Serv Info, Paint Repair WKD 491 920 2.75 Shop Man,

This "944-ish" link also lists hundreds of books, documents, manuals, and all kinds of things if anyone would like to take a look, many are 968 oriented as well.

The CD I have is the equivalent of all the 944 + 968 addendum's that make up the 968 service manuals. Several binders worth I think. Does that make sense? It was explained to me that the Germans just added the 968 details to existing 944 service manuals to produce the 968 service manual. Covers everything from engine rebuilds, tuneups, suspension, body, and electrical. How can I make copies? I'll gladly get them made if anyone wants to see what I have.

Copy your CD contents to hard drive, then do the reverse with a fresh CD. I would love to have one and would be happy to walk you through the process over the phone.
