Sunset Porsche WOW!
#1

Always bought my parts from Suncoast in Florida until I felt they over charged me a ridiculous amount for shipping. I called up Sunset today and they sold me the CS Steering wheel for $364. That's cheaper than I've seen it anywhere. I'm pumped. +1 for Sunset.

Congrats on the steering wheel. You are going to need 2 more parts to make it all work properly. A steering wheel horn connector (without it, you wont have a working horn). This part carries a 928 Part Number. I can get the part number for you if you'd like. Sunset carries them and should have informed you that you will be needing it. You will also need a resistor to trick the ECu into thinking you still have an Airbag (to avoid having the airbag light pop on when you swap wheels).

Does anyone the weight difference between the two steering wheels?

Thanks

Congratulations on the new purchase.

I may need to break down and get a CS steering wheel! When my son saw the CS that was featured in the last GTPORSCHE magazine, his first comment was how the CS steering wheel makes the whole interior look a lot more modern!

I've always wanted one too but the shipping from Sunset is crazy- not their fault (sort of), they use UPS and won't use USPS to Canada. UPS asks anyone not in the USA to "bend over" when they show up at the door.

Dave - if you ever need something from the US shipped, I can give you the address for our "sister" plant down in Ferndale, WA (very close to Lynden & CDN border) and a contact person there, who I use regularly for 968 items (from Pelican, Tire Rack, Excellence, etc)! He is bringing "across the line" tonight the back issues of Excellence" that I had shipped to his attention. His parents live in Langley. I also go down there on a regular basis myself. I had tires from Tire Rack shipped there (within the US there is no shipping charges) and there is a "recommended installer" just a block away from their location.

So... if you need that info send me a PM. The CDN 968'ers need to help each other out when we can.

By the way, I will be sending you a PM in the next couple of weeks, when I know what date I will be in the Campbell River area. Hope you will be in town so we can meet up and plan future 968 events.

Cheers,

I used Sunset for years and was happy with their service until my last order. I ordered a new scuff plate and was told ok then same order a new battery cover. I waited 2 1/2 weeks and called them as I heard nothing. I was told could not get scuff plate and they sent me a used battery cover. Do to this terrible service, I had removed the old scuff plate and had to replace it, I would not use them again. Sending a used part and telling me some thing was comming when they could not even get it has turned me sour on this place.

seems like jumping to an extreme - were you charged for something you didn't get? did you ask for shipping confirmation? did you ask how long it would take to arrive? have you followed up with a phone call after getting the used part?

i've never heard of them sending used parts - i didn't think they can even do that - i'll have to call bob on that one

as for the process, if they have it, it is usually shipped that day, and i get a tracking number - if they don't have it, they always tell me where it is and how long to get it

i have ordered thousands of dollars in parts from them, and while i have had the occasional hiccup, it has always been simple to remedy, and have always gotten an apology when it was their fault

that being said, i have also noticed different levels of service dependent upon whom i get on the phone

out of curiosity, what the heck is a scuff plate? what car has a battery cover?

The 944's have a cover over the battery. They are pretty rare to see as they usually get tossed or left off. I don't believe the 968 ever had one, cost savings. But the 944 one would work in there.

anyone have pics of this battery cover from a 944...i dont think either of my 944's (87 8V & 88 951) had this cover. Would help clean up/modernize the engine bay of the 968 a little more along with the early front & rear engine covers.

Jake, look forward to the PM and thanks for the WA offer. My son received a 50.00 gift certificate to Pelican but it was anticlimactic as he knew that would only cover the postage and not any goodies.

Neither of my 944's (944 and S2) had a cover.

Flash, a battery cover goes over the positive side of battery terminal. It just ads a cleaner look. How I ran into problems is I had purchased the right side cover from my local dealer came new in box.. When I was ordering a larger order I encluded the left side cover order from Sunset, that is were I ran into problems and they sent me a used one and a right one which I have.. A scuff plate is a plastic piece that runs along the bottom of your door opening and covers were the carpet meet the medal of the car. I will take pictures of both tomorrow and post them.

ah - now i see - batteries usually come with the one for the positive terminal - no need to cover the negative though (what's it going to do, ground out?)

i still find it very unusual for them to send you a used part - they just don't do that - i'll call bob tomorrow and find out what that is about

i'm familiar with the threshold pieces you refer to - i replaced both of mine not that long ago - they are now discontinued parts

The 944 battery cover actually goes over the top of the entire battery. I'll get a picture of it one of these days.

after looking at pictures of 100 +/- 944 engine bays..i finally found a Turbo with what appears to be a battery cover. Not a great angle....but i think i want one for my car now...i'm really surprised this is the first time i'm hearing of a battery cover existing for our cars to begin with.

Yep, that's the cover, they are part number 477-915-411-A and Pelican has them new for $9.75 if they are still selling them.

Didn't remember the cover until I saw the picture.

My 85.5 944 had one.

i spoke to Sunset - as i thought, they NEVER sell used parts (with the odd exception of "take off" wheels) - but, no hard parts whatsoever - no chance they sold a used battery cover

hot968 - you sure you didn't mean Suncoast?

Sorry guys I had the wrong terminology it is called a "pole covering" it is listed in the PET illustration #902-10. It is part #477-915-429-A /LL and 477-915-429 /RL. I took pictures of it and the scuff plate but can't seem to upload to post I have to read directions. I also am sure my order was from Sunset I have the receipt I am not making a deal out of it as it was cheap and not worth returning or trouble. In reference to the scuff plate yes they have always given me the shipping number but this time it seemed to get totally messed up. I have ordered many parts also from Sunset and even with the postage cost they have been good with prices. Why I was told the scuff plate was being shipped only to be told 2 and 1/2 weeks later they can't even get I don't know. It is a good place and I am not saying I would not order from them again but I would be careful that the order is cvorrect and the parts R available. I 'll post pictures later. I like the looks of the complete battery cover and the picture.
