Space Saving Jack Stands
#1

First off, I have no affiliation with the product or the manufacturer.

A few issues back in Panorama, I saw a picture of a 3.2 Carrera up on "stackable" jack stands during a tire changing exercise. I took a mental note as I'm tight on garage space!

So today when I was buying a new set of stands, I did a search and eventually found the product at:

http://stackstands.com

I ordered the 12" size in aluminum (for weight savings). The stands are "stackable," so they will only take a small foot print in the garage. Yea!

I currently have an AC Hydraulic jack. However, it weighs in at 64 lbs!!! Any recomendations on a safe, reliable, light weight jack that works as well as my AC Hydraulic unit?

Lots of people use these: Lightweight Racing Jack

I just bought one myself for the same reason. (I love my AC jack but it's too heavy to travel with).

that looks almost exactly like mine (but blue) - could be the same jack - the craftsman is a lot more expensive (a bit over $200) - could be just the name and the warranty

i should probably pick up one of those to have a spare - i've needed a second one too many times, and the one i have as a second now is pretty tired

i love that harbor freight is only 15 minutes away

I have been using the Harbor Freight jack that Mike has referenced. They are built in China and are pretty low qualilty. I had one of the castor wheels come off and had to rebuiild it. I don't expect it to last a long time. It is, however, of a good size and weight to transport in the 968. I can fit it behind my seat leaving room in the back for tires, tools, helmet, lunch, etc. when out for some fun.

Cheers, Stephen

Harbor Freight is such a love-hate relationship. Cheap tools that will probably last longer than you will but are not as good as the really expensive ones you want to buy.

I'm very happy with the AllTrade aluminum jack I purchased from Costco in 2005...$119.99 I believe. Instead of casters on the front, it has a full-width roller which works quite well.

The stacking jack stands look great except that they don't have a height adjustment, which can be handy for initial placement.
