Source for new windshield
#1

The small crack on my windshield is starting to show signs of growth since I had it repaired some months ago. I thought I would look for a spare new before it becomes terminal.

Any thoughts about a current source and what I should expect to pay?

Also, the part number is different for a cab and a coupe. Are they interchangeable? I have a '94 coupe.

Speaking of the search feature, this was addressed in several threads in the past. I know because I had a very badly cracked windshield a couple years ago. Ended up finding a used one at a junk yard for $100. 944 windshields work as well, as I recall.

there is a thread here about windshields, in which i placed all of the part numbers, with descriptions of each, as well as most recent pricing from sunset.

cab and coupe are NOT interchangeable. they aren't even the same size.

Latest prices from Sunset: $576 with tint for wholesale; $827 retail; $625 wholesale for clear. $906 retail. 2-5 weeks lead time. Both include antenna ... not available without. Add shipping to that.

If you have Safelite Auto Glass in your area I found them quite reasonable several years ago. Sometimes your vendor doesn't have to be Porsche specific to do a good job.

I know the previous owner of my car just had the glass replaced on the car, he said he looked around, the prices were expensive, but he got one with a 944 part number, it has the antenna in it. He said it was more like $350. This is just a story, not the known facts.

Good luck!

the 968 windshield is a 944 part. it is the same as the S2, but not the same as the earlier models.

the last i heard, safelight only carried one part number for the 968. i think it was the clear one.

also, the last i heard about safelight was that the shipping was more than at sunset, and has resulted in at least one broken windshield arriving. i have no details on that, though it was somebody here who posted about it.

i bought mine through sunset, and it arrived perfectly, and very well packed.
