Adam - good point on the useless mini-bumpers. Some of the more idiotic DOT regulations must drive foreign automakers nuts.
That said - the new Euro standards for 'pedestrian safety' sure are making the front ends of BMWs and Mercs look kinda strange.

I bowed to peer pressure and put the euro side markers on. The bumperettes never really bothered me much though. They're definitely a more successful integration of bogus US bureaucratic requirements than on a lot of other European cars:
