in this Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009 photo, wrecker driver Gilbert Harrison, with MCH Towing, attaches a towing cable to a Bugatti Veyron that was driven into the water near Omega Bay in La Marque, Texas. A man blamed a low-flying pelican and a dropped cell phone for his veering his million-dollar sports car off a road and into a salt marsh near Galveston. I saw this elsewhere. Apparently, the wing deploys at 137 MPH...anything could be distracting at that speed.

BTW the car was for sale...Texas Lightninig maybe?

Which was it ? The pelican, the phone, or both ? Did the phone drop first, then he looked up and saw a pelican ? Or did he see the pelican and drop the phone because the pelican scared the bejesus out of him.

Who talks on the cell at speeds upwards of 100mph? Got what he had coming.

what got me on this was the " dropped his cell phone " remark. let me see, the car is around $ 1.5 million but it does not come with built-in bluetooth ? or, perhaps that was an extra option and at somewhere around $ 300 the owner thought it's just too expensive to indulge in

yeah - it cracks me up how many people are too cheap to get bluetooth in their car - here in california there are a number of insurance companies who will ding you up to $1000 a year for 3 years in rate increases for a cell phone violation, even though the ticket itself is only about $150 all in, and doesn't go on your driving record - they are using it as an indicator of reckless behavior, just like being 25 in a sports car - that's a pretty big roll of the dice versus just getting the danged gadget
