The typical smog check cost ( on the Peninsula side of the Bay Area, anyway..)
is just about $ 90 now.. $ 79.99 test + $ 8.99 certificate. The stations which have banners adverstising $ 49.99 + certificate cost specials, almost always end up with a dozen cars lined up from 8 am until 6 pm ... yeah, like I'm going to wait several hours to save $ 30.. but my point is: absolutely NOTHING has changed
equipment or process-wise from three or four years ago when the cost average was $ 29.99. So, WTF ?!! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/mad.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
Furthermore there are a lot of places which charge $ 79.99 for cars, $ 89.99 for SUVs, $ 99.99 for vans and pick ups.. ..UH....what difference does the friggin'
vehicle type make relative to the test ? Oh, and I've seen one place where there's an additional $ 5 "convenience" fee if you just drive in without an appointment.
So if you see a new Carrera Turbo in front of one of these stations, it's probably not a customer's car - it's the person that runs the test center <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/dry.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
sorry, had to vent.. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/blink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
